"Hey! Hey wait up!"

The sound of footsteps growing louder had me frantically searching around for the one friend I knew would protect me.

Pitiful. Yes I know, but it's not exactly like I could do much against anyone here with how much younger I was then everyone else. And I really didn't feel like getting intimated into doing someone elses homework today.

I already had mine and three others to do.

"Oh shit!" A loud thud followed with an equally loud grunt of pain echoed in the hallway I was currently trying to get out of.

"Don't curse." I mumbled while foolishly turning around to see who was following after me. For all I know it might have earned me a black eye, but upon spotting who was lying on the ground I only let out a sigh.

"Sh--sorry about that." He pushed himself off the ground, his cheeks fading from the deep red they momentarily were. Most likely from the fall.

"Tie it so you won't trip." I remarked, only to earn a confused look. "Your shoe." I clarified with a pointed finger down at his worn out shoes.

"Oh. Yeah that." He crouched down only to lazily tuck the laces inside. "My mom hates these but I refuse to throw them out. I'm Jace by the way." He added before standing up again.

"I remember you."

His face perks up with a smile for some reason. "You're the guy who Laura got creeped out by because you were staring at us."

Jace ran a few fingers through his now violet dyed her before scratching the back of his neck. I clutched onto the book in my arms tighter before looking behind me nervously. This guy doesn't even go here.

"I'm just going to leave now." I take a step back, only to have him stumble a few steps towards me.

"Uh no, I, um -- go out with me?" The words rushed out quickly making him take a deep breath before trying to recover or so it seemed. "I mean we have matching hair and eye color so it makes sense and all."

He gave a what I'm guessing was suppose to be a charming smile. But I only narrowed my eyes at him. "No. And don't follow me to the bus stop you weirdo. Or else I'll tell my dad who's a cop if you're not afraid of Laura."

Jace's grin dropped but I hurriedly turned and rushed out of the high-school. The doors closed behind me but not before I managed to hear him. "Weirdo? Hey, am I weird?"

I smiled to myself as I hurried upon spotting the bus about to arrive to my stop.

Claire:

"Mom honestly, I'm fine." I pull open the door to go into my office, but she firmly pushes it close with her foot.

"You were gone for three days. No calls. No messages." She lists off in disagreement with my statement. "So don't think that you're getting off that easy."

Oh gosh please don't use the mom glare! She's using the mom glare. Keep it together, Claire. Don't tell her. Don't tell her. . .

"Clairissa?"

I let out a breath from being saved from my mental dilemma, only to hold it in once more upon registering the voice behind me. My mom curses under her breath at not having spotted him earlier.

Somehow I manage to turn around at a reasonable speed despite the situation at hand. My widen eyes meet the face of someone I hadn't expected to see any time soon.
