Prologue:
Dying was never an option, nor was killing someone. Though it seems I’m caught in the midst of both at this formidable point. My heart has no choice but to race; though it ran so fast under my chest it felt as if it were more running away than racing.
I stood feet away, daring to take a breath closer, just in case I was next. I think he wanted to step in, but this time, I had the knife; clenched between sweaty and trembling fingers, wielded up before him. One more step was all I needed to strike, so we both just stood, like monumental statues, in memory of the dead, the murdered, and what everything was before truth got in the way.
When I look into his eyes I see more than a past, I see much more than I really should…
