Story time!

A long while back, my phone alerted me to the fact that someone else on Wattpad had added this book to a reading list called "cliche rant books"

I found this very amusing because I couldn't tell if my book classified as a rant book that was cliche, or a book that ranted about cliches.

I happen to think it's both.

Still funny.

This raised my attention on a subject I had already acknowledged-- rant books are cliche. There aren't many ways to set your rant book apart from others, but here are a few;

1. Stick to your style of humor.
People like funny. I like making people laugh, and I try very hard to do so. We all (probably) have a sense of humor, so use that to up entertainment and amusement.

2. Have inside jokes.
Inside jokes are fun, and if they worked the first time, chances are, it'll work again. This will also bring you and your readers closer. You can both relate to the time the first time that joke was told.

3. Uniquely tell stories.
I do my best to incoperate fictional characters into my work (WTMM, not this book). My rant book is not my diary. Not only will telling readers what color I painted my nails bore them, but I will also fall asleep by the time I have the title written out. Humor is key. Humor makes things interesting.

4. Treat it like a semi-formal dinner party.
The purpose of "semi" is due to the fact that you shouldn't be on your best behavior. "Formal" is there because you should probably steer clear of things not talked about at a dinner table.
Opinions upset people. Writing this book makes me nervous. Every time I get a comment, I'm wondering if someone is going to be (rightfully) chewing me out for my rudeness/opinion blasting. This entire book is my opinion. And when you have an opinion, people disagree with it.
Opinions on politics and religion are not things that belong on the internet. I'm sorry if you disagree, but too many people are bound not to have the same views as you. Opinions do divide people. It's unfortunate, yet true. The internet is not a safe place for opinions on deep political issues.
I'm making myself sad. Wow.

5. Don't let readers take the place of your friends.
When I started my rant book, it was just before the beginning of the school year. I had transferred, and I was very scared. And instead of making friends at school, I made friends on Wattpad. After I realized this, I took a hiatus, and came back only after new friends had been made. Your friends here on Wattpad cannot support you as much as they perhaps could if they could see your face (not on a screen). I'm not saying you won't make or don't have Wattpad friends, but there should be a balance between internet reality and reality. After all, who will go see the latest Marvel movie with you if all your friends are in Australia? ;) Have people to actually scream and cry with is more healthy than caps lock.

That is all.

Did you guys see Civil War?
