The Lighting
"What a beautiful winter day!" Marinette exclaimed as she happily gazed out the window and to the snowy streets of the very festive Paris. It was Christmas Eve and all the towns people where preparing for the annual tree lighting that takes place every year on Christmas Eve. As usual, Marinette would go with her parents but this year was different. It was the first year her parents wouldn't be able to treasure it with her because they had to deliver 13 Christmas Cakes too 4 different residences before Christmas. Marinette got dressed and went out on the normal runs, delivering cupcakes and such to regular customers. School was out for the week so Marinette had the time for herself, although it didn't last long. "All right Tikki, time for patrolling! Only 2 hours before the tree lighting." Marinette said as Tikki emerged from her sweater pocket and nodded. "Transform me!" Marinette chanted as she transformed into her alter ego, Ladybug. "Alright! Let's go!" Ladybug descended from her house before running down the crowded streets of Paris, France. Ladybug stood upon a snow-covered rooftop as she took a deep breath of the air,a chill descending down her spine as she smiled. "Ah my lady, I thought I'd find you here." A flirtatious voice said from behind her. Ladybug spun around to see Chat Noir with a smug grin plastered across his face. "Chat Noir, not surprised that your here. You always seem to be following me around." Ladybug replied, disguising the fact that he had just scared the crap out of her. Chat Noir pretended to look offended as he placed a hand dramatically across his chest. "My! How rude of you, Ladbug." He morned, "I thought we where partners!" Chat oozed, Ladybug just rolled her eyes at his fake attempt to get her pity. "Anyways, Kitty-cat, I was just finishing up my patrol." Ladybug said as her eyes grazed over the busy town, from what she could see, there was no suspicious activity. "Will you be at the Christmas Tree Lighting?" Chat added in a quick tone, almost as if he was trying to hold back the urge to ask. "Uh... Yeah, I'll be there, to keep an eye out for suspicious activity." Ladybug replied awkwardly, her eyes glanced over at Chat Noir. She felt herself blush as she saw Chat's flustered expression. "Well...um... I guess I might see you then?" Chat asked with a glimpse of hope in his emerald eyes as Ladybug nodded and smiled. "Yeah. Until then, Kitty." Ladybug teased as she fled from the rooftop, the familiar nickname making Chat blush even more. Later that evening, Chat, aka Adrien, had changed back into himself and was preparing to go to the tree lighting. Since his father, like always, is to busy to go, Adrien was going with a group of friends from school. Nino, Alya, and Marinette. Adrien stared at his reflection in the mirror before sighing deeply, he couldn't help but think about Ladybug. She was going to be there, the girl he had fallen madly in love with. "Keep it together Adrien!" He told himself as he shook his head a few times, hoping to clear his conscious. Adrien left his house in a rush, he had planned to meet his friends at the park where the tree was. He was so excited he could barely stop shaking. Ladybug, now Marinette, was standing eagerly in the park with her best friend, Alya. "If you don't stop pacing, I'm going to have to sit on you." Alya said in a annoyed tone as Marinette just laughed nervously, forcing her feet to remain still. "Ahaha... Sorry Alya." Marinette said as her awkward smile turned into a nervous frown. "You look great." Alya said as she gave Marinette a reassuring smile which Marinette returned. Just as she had calmed her nerves, Adrien and Nino came up the pathway waving and smiling at them. Marinette waved back shyly as she pulled her scarf over her rosy cheeks. "Hey ladies." Nino said as he shoved his hands in his pockets. "Should we go get a spot?" Alya nodded as she smiled. "Yep! Let's go!" The group of 4 made their way through the crowds as they found a perfect bench with a beautiful view of the tree. The smell of fresh-cut pine and funnel cakes filled the air as couples and friends chatted amoungst themselves with gleeful expressions. 'Finally a day where I can enjoy myself as Marinette and not Ladybug!' Marinette cheered in her mind but was shortly cut off when a loud snap and screams filled the crisp air. Marinette along with Adrien rose to their feet in a rush. Alya and Nino soon followed as more and more people began to run. "I need to use the bathroom!" Marinette and Adrien said at the exact same time before running in different directions leaving a confused Alya and Nino. Marinette and Adrien both transformed and made it too the scene of the crime. A short, plump woman with what seemed to be an unlimited amount of magic and poisonous pies in her hand, laughing maniacally. "Revenge is sweet!" The woman cackled. "Ladybug, I'm glad to see you here." Chat Noir said with a wink. Ladybug looked at him with a dull expression before looking back at the lady who was now throwing pies at innocent citizens. "Not the time, Chat." Ladybug said before running at the lady, dodging pies as she went. Chat foll0wed, Ladybug's strategy, dodging pies and striking when he could. The battle was long and tiresome before Chat finally got the akuma and Ladybug cleansed it. "Bye-Bye, pretty butterfly." She announced as everyone cheered. "It's 12 o'clock! time for the lighting!" The man in-charge of the event exclaimed as he grabbed the plugs and pushed them together. The tree lit up with beautiful colors, tinsel and ordainments filled the tree as everyone clapped and cheered. Ladybug smiled and looked at the marvelous tree, a bright smile on her face as her eyes lit up with excitment. Chat starred at the Ladybug in aw, she really was the most beautiful thing he had ever seen. Ladybug looked over at Chat, for a second they just starred at each-other before they both looked up. Coincidentally, they where standing under the mistletoe. They both blushed deeply and quickly averted their gazes. "Um...You don't have to...You know...kiss-" Chat began to say but before he could finish Ladybug had already grabbed his face and pressed her lips against his. At first he was shocked, he felt his heart pounding in his chest and his legs get weak. He quickly fell into the kiss, closing his eyes as he kissed her back lightly, wrapping his arms around her waist. They kissed for what felt like forever but in reality is was only a few seconds. But those seconds where the best seconds of Chat Noir's and Adrien's lives. Ladybug eventually pulled away from the kiss as her sapphire eyes starred into his emerald ones. "Merry Christmas, Chat."
