Lucy's POV
I sit with my back against the only tree, knees bent into a "W" shape. Next to me is Michelle. We sit together under the shade of the tree, staring out onto the open field.

"Hey, Lucy?"

"Yeah, what is it?" I turn to face Michelle.

"Do you remember that day?" She continues to stare at the open field. I lean back down against the tree.

"Yeah, I do." I close my eyes and think back. . .

-------

Michelle was a doll originally. She was given to me when I was little. Michelle was a present from my mom and dad for my birthday. I loved the doll so much and we played together all of the time! We had tea parties and read; my favorite book was about the constellations and zodiac signs.

Shortly after, my mom passed away, and my dad became very focused on his work. He kept himself locked in his office, although it felt more like I was the one being locked out from his world.

I grew used to being alone; I was daddy's little rich girl, but it wasn't any fun. Michelle was all I had: the last memory of Mom I had left.

Father had all of the pictures of Mom either boxed up and shipped to some other country, or burned. Many of the maids and servants of the Heartfilia Mansion quit after mom died, and the house grew quiet.

But one day, when it seemed that things couldn't grow any more glum, a mage came to our a home seeking refuge for the night. He taught me a little bit of  celestial magic, and he gave me what is called a gate key! I had read about them in books, but never had I actually possessed one. The one I had received was called the "Gate of the Little Dog, Nikora". The mage helped me make a contract with the spirit, and I named him Plue! Plue was so adorable! I immediately knew we would become friends. The mage taught me further than what any of the books could. I was amazed by the amount of knowledge that he possessed, but I will never forget the advice he gave me:

"Magic comes from you heart and your soul; it can not be obtained through knowledge."

The following day the mage explained that he had no money, and yet he felt the need to repay us, but i explained that it wasn't necessary! He had taught me so much while he was here, but he insisted. So instead he turned Michelle into a real girl my age. She makes for good company, though a bit quiet.

-------

I wake up from my daydream to the terrifying yet subtle sound of a rumble from underneath me. I can't remember when I began to hear it but the sound grew gradually. Soon it became so loud that I had to cover my ears! The ground began to shake, and wind grew stronger.

"WHAT'S GOING ON?" I scream. I can see Michelle still resting against the tree. How can she sleep with all of this commotion? She looks so calm and peaceful with her porcelain-like face serene. Her eyelids show no wrinkles or any sign trouble whatsoever, but my ears threatened to give out, my face still contorted in agony of tremendously loud sound. All of a sudden the floor gave out.
