Chapter 17 - Escape From Emerald City

Lucy's POV
We arrived at the Emerald City gates, and the little man from before was standing right in the middle of the two doors, head held high, and arms behind his back.

"S'cuse me mister" Levy said, walking up to him "but we need to get through those gates, would you be so kind as to open them for us?" The guard looks from Levy, to the four of us standing behind her. There is a silence as if the guard was deciding whether or not he felt like opening the gates today or not.

Then the sound of a phone ringing broke the silence, the guard went to go answer it. After what felt like 2 hours but was probably 2 minutes in reality, the guard came back.

"humph" he glared at us "if you want to leave, you have to follow your directions exactly" we nodded, he continued "good, first close your eyes, and-"
"What is this? A magic trick?" Gajeel interrupted.
"watch it" the guard snapped, after a short pause he continued, again, "now when i snap you are going to walk forward and will NOT open your eyes, then stop till i say. Got it?" we all nodded again.

We all shut our eyes, I squeezed mine shut, I really wanted to get out of here, it was beginning to creep me out. Between the bipolar tour guides and the secretive whispers and the poppy sent narcotic I was getting a bit annoyed if not infuriated with this place that was supposed to be the Magical Emerald Kingdom of Oz.

"Snap!" And I began to walk forward, I felt Levy reach and grab my hand; I gave it a quick squeeze. Oddly enough, I kinda felt like I was on a pirate ship, walking off a plank.

It felt like we had been walking for a while, and the ground beneath us had changed several times now; first it felt like stone (when we were still within the gates) then dirt, and now grass. I began wondering if the gatekeeper just forgot about us. It wasn't unlikely, he didn't like us very much and Gajeel was far from nice to him. But then conveniently a rough, electric sounding voice rang out, almost like it was through a speaker.

"STOP!" And the voice was gone. Almost as if it was cut off, and all that was left was complete silence.

I opened my eyes slowly, realizing how hard i had been squeezing them shut. The sunlight blinded me but it might have just been because my eyes had been closed for such a long time.

I turned to face the the hand I'd been holding on to for so long, and the blue haired girl was just as bleary eyed.

Soon everyone's sigh had come back and we realized we were standing in a huge green plush grass field, with no sight of the Emerald City anywhere.

"Where are we?" Jet was the first to ask. Gajeel looked around quizzically trying to answer Jet's question but seemingly unable.

"What's that?" I exclaimed. It wasn't all that loud but considering how quiet it was, it got everyone's attention. I started walking over to what caught my eye. It seemed to be a trail of some dust, like shimmer or glitter, or iridescent glitter or something but it seemed to lead all the way to a white castle in the distance that I hadn't noticed before.

"Do you guys see that castle?" I asked

"Which one? I don't see anything- oh never mind I see it!" Levy corrected herself.

"That wasn't there two seconds ago..." Jet commented.

"No it definitely wasn't" Gajeel added. Droy looked up for the first time from his bucket of fried chicken that never seemed to run out.

"I know that castle!" He exclaimed "That's the Good Witch of the East's castle!"

That blue haired girl from earlier? I thought. That little girl has a huge castle all to herself?? No way.

"Well what are we waiting for? Isn't that who we were looking for?" Levy beckoned us to follow her down the hill that led straight to the castle, "Let's go!"
