Back again! Hopefully this was faster but idk. Time is really an illusion. So...enjoy!
As the days passed, it became evident that Adeline was set on staying. She had moved into the spare bedroom that the twins had once fought over, and had now melded into their routine. When asked how long she would be staying, she would always reply with an "as long it takes" before returning to whatever she was doing. Dipper, however, liked to amuse himself with the idea that she only stayed there to play his video games and steal their junk food (since she didn't actually attend classes).
Dipper had fallen into a new routine of wearing the signature pine tree again. With his hectic thoughts, he enjoyed the little reminder of the past. This new-found fear of what may come has put him on edge, leaving school work at the back of his mind, not to mention girls. Even though the teen had been attending his classes, he had completely avoided the subject which was "Emma".
"Dipper, you can't avoid her forever," Mabel mumbled, looking down at her food. They were in lunch and, even though she wasn't exactly looking she could tell that her twin was hiding from the girl.
"What are you talking about? I'm not avoiding anything," He let out an awkward laugh before diverting his attention to the door, praying she wouldn't walk in.
"Come on Dip. You two have to talk about it at some point," Chase spoke from his spot next to Mabel.
"And why is that?" Dipper peaked from under the bill of his hat.
"Because this-" he motioned at the way Dipper was ducked down in his seat, head low. "-is not a healthy response to conflict,"
"But it's an easy one,"
"Whatever bro. You do what you want," Mabel sighed as she stood from her spot and took her-still mostly filled-tray and threw it into the trash before leaving without another word.
"Hey, do you know what's wrong with Mabel? She seems distracted," Chase asked.
"She's just been kind of worried about me. I think it's affecting her sleeping," Dipper mumbled before yawning. He himself was still having trouble with sleep and it was seriously effecting his grades.
"I'll go see if she's okay," Chase said before following the path she took. Dipper continued with his lunch until he heard the chair across from him scoot out.
"Did Mabel tell you to get lost?" He asked with a small laugh.
"Not that I can remember," Dipper's eyes shot up at the voice. In front of him sat the one person he feared to see.
"Emma," He sighed. Looking everywhere but at her.
"Dipper come on. We need to talk," she said.
"Why?! You cheated on me! I'm sorry I I'm not too keen on discussing it!" He spat, gritting his teeth as he spoke the words that came off his tongue with so much venom. Emma let out a sigh.
"You're right, I did. You had been gone for so long, and I didn't even feel like we were together. It hurt me to think it was because of me, and Alex? He just made me feel alright for...just a little while..." She took a deep breath, tears filling her eyes. "That is, until the guilt seeped in," Dipper's rage hadn't lessened, and he felt weak from all the anger.
"Of course you felt guilt. It was wrong. I never wanted to make you feel that way, I've just been sick - and I thought you would understand that. But in case this wasn't clear, we're over," He stood from his spot and left the cafeteria without another word. Once he left the room, a wave of nausea flooded him, and the teen made a bee-line for the bathroom.
He looked at himself in the mirror, wiping the vomit residue from around his mouth. His reflection didn't look like him. Dipper knew it was himself, but it almost looked distorted, like his actual appearance had changed.
He straightened, adjusted his hat and hair, and flattened out the wrinkles on his band tee before leaving the bathroom.
The day passed by in a blur. Not knowing how it happened, he found himself standing by the bus after school waiting on his sister. One thing was certain, he had officially ended it with Emma, and despite the fact that they weren't together that long, the feeling of betrayal burned him to the core. It was as if all of his emotions were under a magnifying glass.
Mabel appeared next to him and offered her twin a big smile that seemed forced. They stepped on the bus together and rode on in silence. The only thing they said to each other was when they passed by Toby Determined, commenting on the fact that he was still "reporting" and getting a small laugh out of both of them.
As the bus arrived back at their residence, the twins hopped off and walked inside the tourist trap. Adeline greeted them happily, once inside.
"How are you two?" She questioned.
"Great!" Mabel exclaimed trotting off to the kitchen. Adeline stepped forward to Dipper, examining him closely. She peered deep into his eyes, searching for answers.
"And you?" She asked. "Feeling any different? Experiencing any wild...mood swings?" She poked his chest and he took a step back.
"Not that I can think of, no," he half lied. The hard pain from ending it with Emma could just be teen heartache right? He wasn't sure, but Dipper knew for sure that he wasn't going to talk about it. At least not with Adeline, but maybe someone else.
"Hm...I don't believe you. Come on, spit it out, Dipper my boy!" She tried joking by using an accent, but it didn't really help the mood. "I'm serious, you need to talk to me about this!" She almost demanded.
As if an angel had just answered the boy's prayers, Dipper heard a quiet thud on the ceiling. A small smile crossed his features.
"Maybe later, I have someone I need to talk to," he said, turning and leaving a slightly confused Adeline.
As Dipper entered the Shack's store front, he let out a quiet whisper,
"Roof time,"
Boom! I told you I would get it done! Thanks for all the support and all of the reminders to keep going, I hope this was an okay update. Let me know in the comments ;)
