Dipper woke up, light shining on his eyes through his window. Mabel was gone, in her place was a folded piece of paper. The teen reached for the sheet, and slowly unfolded it.
"Hey Dippin' sauce. You were sleeping so peacefully, so Stan and I just let you sleep today. I'll be home after school but Stan is out today. He had to go out of town to run some errands or something. I'll see you later. -Mabel"
Dipper smiled and folded the note back. He stood up, wobbling a little after sleeping on the floor all night. He felt much better after sleeping, but he was still seriously tired. Dipper paced for a few minutes, not sure what to do.
He looked around his room, and his eyes stopped on a corner of an old book. It was just barely sticking out from under his bed. Dipper stared at it for a few moments, not sure whether he should pick it up or not. He hesitantly picked up the book he had found in the woods years ago.
"Well...I'm already pretty messed up. S'not like its gonna do anything worse to me." He mumbled to himself under his breath. Dipper sat on his bed as he opened the book. The feeling of the crisp old pages brought back memories. He remembered fighting Gideon over the book (and his sister). He smiled faintly and flipped to the back of the book. He slid his fingers across the back cover, but stopped when he felt a strange corner.
"What the hell is this?" Dipper said, feeling the corners of the object under the leather. The teen dug through his drawer until he found a small pocket knife. With the knife in hand, he flipped it open and pressed the tip against the leather. The boy slid it down, slicing into the cover. Once he had cut it far enough open, Dipper dropped the knife and separated the leather a little further.
He slid a few fingers into the space and felt a piece of paper. Dipper's curiosity sprung to life like a fire. He felt a feeling that he hadn't since the first summer he had been in Gravity Falls. He carefully pulled out the piece of paper. It looked like part of it had been burned but the fire was put out quickly. It was folded in half and the paper had turned a slightly yellow color. The teen unfolded it and read its contents.
"I have come across something new in my studies. Something that I hadn't seen before. That's because, it can't be seen...at least, not by the normal eye. It's a seemingly invisible creature that lurks in the shadows. Everywhere. I had the suspicion that something was following me. I was right. I don't know exactly how I did it, but I seem to have created a device that allows you to see it. If you are reading this, then you must find it. I have hidden the device, and used a series of clues to help you find it. Be careful. This creature will find out your secrets and use them against you. DO NOT LET YOUR GAURD DOWN!"
Dipper's mouth suddenly went dry and he couldn't breath. He gasped for air as his hand clutched the parchment tighter. His heart was racing as he read this. "Why couldn't I have just left it? Not opened the paper? Why do I get myself into these messes?" He asked himself. The young sleuth pulled at his hair and let out a low sigh. He kept looking behind his back to make sure no one, or nothing, was there.
His. Phone began to vibrate, sending him jumping off the bed in fear. His head craned back slowly to see it was Mabel. He let out another sigh and relaxed a little bit. He picked up the phone and opened up the text.
"Last class of the day. Gonna b home soon. Stay cool" the teen rolled his eyes at the text and began to reply.
"Ok. C u then." He never texted in full words if he didn't have to. Dipper stayed on edge for the rest of the day, a little scared about what he had read. His mind was racing and he felt a strange urge to find the device. Despite what his last encounter with the strange things of Gravity Falls had done to him.
(A/N- short chapter. I hope my next one is longer. Just kinda felt rushed to finish this one. Sorry for the wait ;D Stay Cool!)
