"How can this be!?" I yelled out, face-planting on my bed. I couldn't believe it. This mystery guy has been James all along.

"Rylie, I don't understand why this is so horrible. He fell in love with you, and he obviously is just really shy about showing it so he covers it up by doing and saying mean things to you. That's why he did the notes anonymously, he said it himself that he was trying to work up the courage to tell you who he is." Grace said, and I could feel her sit on the bed beside me.

"He's never had trouble showing it with other girls!" I protested, having made that point to Johnny once before. He'd thought it was just because I was different in James's eyes.

"But he just dated those girls, or made out with them because he could. Rylie, he fell in love with you, that's entirely different." She told me.

"But... but... I don't understand!!" I whined, unable to believe that he could fall in love with me.

"You don't have to understand it, that's how love works." She said. I groaned and grabbed a pillow, burying my head beneath it. "C'mon, Ry, he's really a nice guy underneath his cover! Give the guy a chance!"

"How? How am I supposed to give someone who's made me want to die a chance?" I asked, my voice muffled underneath the pillow.

"But think about how his notes made you feel. He has the power to keep you from that, you know that. He made you so happy with those notes, and it didn't matter to you who it was because someone cared, someone loved you. So why should it matter now that you know who he is? He just wants a chance, that's all. He was working up the courage to tell you it was him, hoping that you'd be with him once he did. He was hoping you wouldn't let the things that have happened get in the way, because he wants to show you he really is different from everyone else." Grace replied. I let her words sink in for a moment, thinking about them carefully before I turned over onto my back. She'd laid down beside me by now, and she was looking at me.

I didn't say anything, and she continued talking. "Y'know, I've known it was Jimmy for a while now."

"What!?" I blurted.

She nodded. "Yeah, I came into school early one morning to make up a test, and I saw him taking one of the notes you left for him on your locker over night and then I watched him write a reply and slip it into your locker. I didn't say anything because I wanted to see how long it'd be until you found out or he told you himself."

"Oh my God. I still can't believe it's him! It's been him all along, and he fucking stole my heart!" I cried out.

"You're going to have to confront him about it."

"How!?"

"You just tell him that you know. But I really do hope you give him a chance, because he obviously really cares about you and really loves you." Grace got up from my bed, standing over me as she added, "I can say something to Zacky and he can tell Jimmy if you want me to."

"No! I'm not in elementary school, I don't need to send friends to tell the guy that I like him for me. I'll do it myself." I said, sitting up.

She arched an eyebrow at me. "So you do have a crush on him."

"I don't know! All I know is that I totally did when I didn't even know who he was, so I must still now that I know, right?"

Grace nodded slightly. "Well he is still the same person, so I suppose that you would, yes." Then she smirked and teased me with, "Aww, Rylie's got a crush on Jimmy!!" She poked me in the stomach multiple times.

Unable to help it, I laughed and said, "Grace, stop, that tickles!" I knew I was blushing though, I could feel that heat collecting on my skin.

"Jimmy and Rylie, sitting in a tree, K-I-S-S-I-N-G! First comes love--" I grabbed a pillow and stuffed her face with it, and I could hear her singing out still, "--Then comes marriage, then comes a baby in the baby carriage!"
