When Christmas Eve came, I had been up in my room waiting for Jimmy to come pick me up. I watched on the balcony, wondering what I was supposed to do about the broken glass in the door. Anyone outside could probably see that there wasn't glass in the door like there was supposed to be. There was one little problem though, which was why I was waiting on the balcony and not watching out the window downstairs.

Dad had decided to show up a little over an hour ago unexpectedly. He was strangely sober, but that was better than him being drunk. I would still have to try and sneak out of here somehow, but it would be easier with him sober. When he's sober, he doesn't get so angry or anything and he's less likely to hit me. Usually he just ignores me or grunts out responses to whatever I have to say. Those times when he is sober are rare, but peaceful. The bigger concern was; I'm not sure that he'll still be sober when I get back. The last thing I need are more bruises for Jimmy to see.

In the days leading up to tonight, Jimmy and I spent practically every day together and then sometimes at night instead of going to sleep, we'd just talk on the phone into the latest hours of the night. I had no idea I could be so happy just because of one person, it didn't make sense to me, but I liked it. I would look in the mirror sometimes and not recognize my own face because it was so happy looking.

Jimmy did call me and prove to me that his parents said it was ok for me to join them tonight, just like he said he would. He made sure to rub it in my face for a good five minutes, which just made me laugh. I'm not going to lie, I am nervous for tonight. It's not just his parents, but aunts, uncles, grandparents, and probably other relatives too that'll be there.

I saw Jimmy's car pull into the driveway and I quickly went back into my room, closed the curtains and then headed downstairs. I peeked into the living room, and saw my dad sitting there watching TV. He didn't know that anyone had pulled into the driveway. Good. I turned and started back towards the door when I heard,

"Where are you going?"

I turned back around and stepped back under the archway. "I'm going out for the night. I'll be back later."

"With who?" He asked, like he really cared.

"Um, my boyfriend."

Unsurprisingly, he laughed at me. "Right, ok, and I'm a fucking vampire." He shook his head. "Just get out of here then, go frolic in your fantasy world."

I rolled my eyes and turned around, heading out the door and leaving him there. I went down the steps and around the front of the car to the passenger's side, opening the door and getting in. Jimmy looked over at me and smiled.

"Hey, I was beginning to wonder if you were coming out."

"Sorry, my dad was talking to me." I leaned over and gave him a quick kiss.

"He doesn't care that you're not staying home tonight?" Jimmy asked.

I shook my head. "Trust me, he could care less."

"Alright, then I won't feel guilty about stealing you away." He smirked.

"You'd do it anyway even if he did want me to stay home." I pointed out.

He gave a nod, chuckling. "You're right, I would."

After the short drive to his house, having to pull up on the side of the road because the driveway was full with three or four other cars, we got out of the car and he met me around the front of it, taking my hand tightly in his.

"Ready?" He asked.

"I guess so, I mean, I'm actually kind of nervous." I said shyly, feeling butterflies in my stomach.
