Grace's POV
"Y'know, I really think you should go talk to him, especially now that you know he still loves you." I said after reading the note Jimmy had given Rylie. She had her head on my shoulder, still crying.
"I would but... I don't feel ready to confront him. I'm almost afraid. After the way I yelled at him... he gave me this really sweet note and I should've just stayed there but I gave up so easily."
"You were upset, you had a right to leave. You both needed this space or his note never would've happened. Just go talk to him."
"Like this? All puffy eyed with wet cheeks?"
I sighed. "Rylie, Jimmy won't give a shit. You're just looking for an excuse not to. You have nothing to be afraid of, it's Jimmy. He loves you, and he wouldn't tell you if he didn't want you back."
She didn't say anything for a while, but then she said, "Actually, I think I'll talk to Johnny. I still haven't made up with him yet for everything and Jimmy mentioned in his letter that they were friends. Maybe he could tell me something more."
"What more do you need?"
"I just... I really need to talk him, ok?" Rylie said, getting up from the floor.
"Ok, this isn't really what I had in mind, but it's a start. If it would make you feel better to talk to Johnny, then go talk to him." I told her, knowing I couldn't stop her. Maybe he could encourage her further and she'd finally go after Jimmy. I didn't understand why she was afraid, maybe she thought they would fight again or something.
Either way, it didn't matter. I had an idea, and Rylie going to talk to Johnny gives me the perfect time right now to start planning it and putting it in action. I came up with it when I was out with Zee, we'd talked about the situation and what we could do to maybe make it better. He left it up to me to get it going, and I fully intend on doing such a thing, because these two idiots who won't talk to each other face to face need to be together again and for good this time.
After making sure Rylie was long gone, I got up and went downstairs to get the phone before coming back up into my room and shutting the door securely. I flopped down on my bed, dialing Jimmy's number.
Rylie's POV
I arrived at Johnny's and nervously went up to the door, knocking three times. I waited patiently for the door to open, and when it did I was looking at Johnny's father. He regarded me curiously, looking me over.
"Can I help you?"
"Uh, yeah, my name is Rylie, I'm a friend of Johnny's. I was wondering if he was home, I'd like to talk to him if that's ok."
"Right, Rylie. I thought you looked familiar. You're the girl who had been helping Johnny get his grades up, yes?"
I nodded. "That would be me."
"Thanks for doing that by the way, he's still doing great. Let me call him down here." He said, turning and shouting Johnny's name throughout the house, mostly aimed up the stairs.
A minute or two later, Johnny came down the stairs, saying, "Yeah?" Then he saw me, and slowed a little, but continued down and walked over to where his father was across from me. Johnny looked at me, but he didn't look angry or anything. He looked kind of sad, actually.
"I'll leave this with you guys." Johnny's dad said, turning and disappearing into another room.
I bit my lip for a moment, looking at Johnny's bruising on his face. "...Hey."
"Hey."
"I was wondering if it'd be ok to talk to you for a little while."
He nodded and said quietly, "Sure. Follow me."
