Four years. It's been four years since the love of my life left our small town to attend college on the other side of the country.

Or so I thought he was the love of my life...

The first year while he was gone was alright. We skyped mostly every night and texted every day. Things were good between us. He came home for the holidays and it was Christmas Eve of 2011 that he gave me a promise ring. A promise that we would be together forever. A promise I thought he would keep...

His sophomore year of college was different however. He rarely called. He wouldn't respond to my texts. He wouldn't even come home for the holidays. It was as if he completely cut me out of his life. The only way I could at least see what he was up to was through social media.

And then it happened. That one picture that would change our lives forever.

I remember that photo clearly. I presumed he was at a bonfire with friends, because I could see flames from a fire on one side of the photo and a few people in the background. But the focus of the picture was him sitting on a chair with a very pretty girl on his lap. Her arms were wrapped around his neck, and she was placing a kiss upon his cheek. Scott was staring at the camera with a huge cheeky grin on his face.

But the thing that hit me the most was his caption: 'spending the night with this babe!' I remember he also used the heart eye emoji and two hearts.

I vowed right then and there that I would never speak to him again. I felt betrayed. I remember ripping his promise ring from my finger and tossing it across the room, ending everything between us.

He tried at least twice to text me weeks after the picture, but I blocked his number. I completely cut him out of my life and began to  move on.

Until today when everything I had vowed to do years back was ruined...

Hi! I know it's been a long time since I've been on here, but I'm trying to get back to writing. I got this request, which I am super excited to write about and I hope y'all will enjoy it. I love the idea behind it and I will be making this particular story a three-parter (or more if I can't fit what I have planned in my head in three parts). This is just a prelude to the story so you can understand better.

I hope you enjoy! :)
