"Emily?" I turned around and the bag of apples I had in my hand fell to the ground as I saw who called my name.
It was him. Scotty. After all these years of not seeing him, here he was standing in front of me.
So many emotions crossed my mind. Happiness. Anger. Mostly anger.
I stopped down to grab my bag of apples, but he reached out before I could and grabbed it.
"You dropped these." He said, mustering a small smile.
"Thanks." I said simply and placed them in my cart.
"No problem." He just stared at me.
Growing uncomfortable, I turned around and placed my hands on my cart, ready to leave.
"So how've you been?"
I mentally groaned. "Fine." I told him without looking back. "I need to get home. My boyfriend is waiting for me."
I could hear a small sigh from him before I took off.
I couldn't believe it. After all these years he has the nerve to show up and talk to me? No. He blew it years ago.
I hurriedly paid for my groceries and walked out to my car. Just my luck. He was loading groceries into the truck next to my car.
I contemplated walking home, but I realized I live too far from the store. I really didn't want to encounter him again, but I knew I had to so I made my way to my car.
I kept my head down while loading my items in the back of my trunk, praying he wouldn't say anything to me.
"Would ya look at that." He said, laughing. "I'd say this was fate, but I'm sure you wouldn't like that."
My head shot up and I gave him the dirtiest glare I could muster. "Why are you even here?" I asked, realizing my tone was a bit snotty.
"Umm, I live here, silly."
I scoffed. "Since when?"
"Since a week ago. I just graduated and decided I would move back to town. I missed it. And you."
I threw my hands up, stopping him from saying more. "No. Don't even say that. You screwed up Scott, and I've moved on. I don't need you poisoning my life."
"Look Em-"
"Don't call me Em. Only friends and family are allowed to do so." I spat.
He sighed. "Look Emily. I know I made a mistake. College got to me like it does most. You make mistakes there and I made a huge one. I know I should've called you. I know I shouldn't have gotten with other girls, but I was just living that stereotypical college life. Im sorry. If there's any way I can make it up to you, I will do it in a heartbeat. Just please, forgive me."
I shut the door of my trunk. "I have to go."
"Emily-"
"No Scott. You hurt me. You promised me forever and you broke that promise. You broke my trust for you."
"I know but-"
"No buts. You made your mistake and now you have to live with the consequence."
I didn't give him a chance to reply as I immediately got into my car and drove away.
As soon as I pulled into the carport of the apartment complex that I lived at with my boyfriend Noah, I shut the engine off and sat in the car for a few moments reflecting on what happened back there.
He sure had changed. He's not the same Scotty that I once knew. He appeared to b quite conceded to me, and that was an instant turn-off for me.
I eventually left my car and made my way up to my apartment, my hands full of groceries.
"I'm home!" I announced, expecting Noah to rush over and help me put groceries away.
I set the bags on the counter, curious as to where Noah was.
"Hello? Noah? Are you home?"
I heard a door slam in our room and a loud bang.
"Noah?" I called out, slowly making my way to our closed bedroom door. I found that odd as I always keep our door open.
I grasped the handle and pushed the door open slowly, revealing a shirtless Noah in our bed, his bottom half covered with our bedspread and he was resting against the headboard.
"Noah? What are you doing?"
"N-nothing babe." He stuttered, clearly nervous about something.
I walked in to the room and opened the door to our closet. Empty. "Are you sure? Because I'm pretty sure I heard a door slam in here."
"A door? I didn't hear anything." He nervously laughed.
"Noah, you're obviously hiding something. I can tell when you're nervous."
I opened the door to our bathroom. Empty. For some reason though, I felt a strong urge to check the bathtub so I walked in and pulled back the shower curtain.
"Noah!" I shouted angrily. I could hear him cuss.
I marched out of the bathroom. "Why the hell is there a half naked girl in our shower!?"
I didn't even give him a chance to answer as I already knew what the answer was. He cheated.
I shook my head and pointed towards the door.
"Just leave. Take your bimbo with you too.""Em, please-"
"No. Out. Now." I said, my teeth clenched, trying to fight back tears.
He hurriedly grabbed clothes and left, the unknown girl following quickly behind him. As soon as I heard the door to our -my- apartment, I burst into tears.
How could he? I trusted him. Why do I trust so easily? You'd think I'd have learned my lesson by now but apparently not.
