"Hey Scotty?" I called out to my boyfriend. I was trying to zip up my dress but I couldn't reach the back.

"Yes dear?" He stood in the doorway, smiling at me.

I smiled softly back. "Could you help me zip this up?"

"Of course." He walked over to me and placed his hands on my back. He paused and I wasn't sure what was wrong.

"Something wrong?" I asked him.

"Umm, I'm not sure. Megan, you have a bump on your back. It's bruised and quite large."

"What?!" I said loudly. "Take a picture." I tossed my phone at him and he took a picture of my back.

My finger traced the screen as I examined the photo of my back. I couldn't figure out how that even happened. I didn't want to worry him, so I shrugged it off. "It's probably nothing. I probably just hurt myself at work without realizing it." He finished zipping me up and I turned around and kissed his cheek. "Don't worry. Everything is okay."

"I think you should at least get it checked out. For me?"

I sighed. "Alright. For you. I'll go in to the doctor after work to ease your mind." I smiled.

"Thank you. I love you." He said.

"Love you too." I kissed him and hurried out the door afraid that I'd be late for work.

All day my mind was filled with what could possibly be wrong with me. How could a lump appear on my back like that without me knowing? And the bruising? That was even odder. It kept bugging me so I told my boss I needed to leave early for a doctor appointment.

I really needed to know what was wrong.

After my boss allowed me to leave early, I headed straight for my doctor. It took about ten minutes to get there and as soon as I arrived, I checked myself in and sat down in the waiting room anxiously awaiting my turn.

When my name was called, I jumped up and followed the nurse into a room where I gave her all my info and the reason I was here today. She took my vitals and examined my back, but wasn't able to tell me anything until the doctor came in.

After she left I texted Scotty to let him know I got off early and was at the doctor. Not even two minutes later, the doctor popped in and immediately checked my back.

"What is it doctor?" I asked.

"I'm not entirely sure. We'll need to blood work to find out exactly what it is."

I agreed and he drew blood and told me that he would call me tomorrow with the results.

I walked out of the doctors office disappointed. I was hoping for an answer right then but now I have to keep waiting. I just wanted to know what was wrong with me.

I couldn't sleep at all that night. My mind was racing with all the possibilities. Was I okay? When would I get the results? I just wanted to know.

Around 8:00 the next morning, my phone started ringing. Without looking at the caller ID, I answered with a very eager 'hello.'

I listened intently to what my doctor was saying. My heart dropped at those three words.

You have cancer.

I have cancer. Stage four Leukemia to be exact.

I hung up the phone and with tear-filled eyes, I walked upstairs to Scotty.

"Babe?" He said, shooting up from the bed when he saw me crying.

"What's wrong?" He asked, wrapping his arms around me."

"The doctor called back with my results."

"He did?"

I nodded into his chest. "Scotty." I looked up at him. "I have cancer."

His mouth popped open and  his eyes started to water as tears formed.

"What?" He said, shocked.

"It's stage four leukemia. I have to go to the hospital right away to begin treatment."

He hugged me tightly and kissed the top of my head.

"I'm scared." I sobbed. "I don't want to die."

"Shh. You're not going to die. Don't say that."

I just continued sobbing. I couldn't help it. Why did this happen?

"You can do this. You can fight it. You know why?" Scotty said.

"Why?"

"Because you're strong. You can fight through anything. Cancer will not be able to fight against you. You will beat it. You've got this. I love you so much baby girl."

"I love you too." I kissed him.

The next day Scotty and I were packing my bags to head to the hospital. After crying all day, I finally accepted that this was my life now and I was ready to kick cancers butt.

"Are you ready?" Scotty said to me, taking my hand.

"I'm ready."

And off we went to begin what would be months and months of treatment.
