"That's the thing about pain, it demands to be felt."
Hattie and I were about half way through The Fault in our Stars and it was one of the best dates that I've been on with her. I did the 'movie' move when we first got there, and since then, she's basically been crying the whole time. I mean, ya, it's a pretty sad movie, but seriously? I don't get all the hoopla.
The end credits just came up on the screen and Hattie and I stood up. I turned my phone back on to see if I missed anything. Nope, no texts or calls or anything.
"I just loved that movie," Hattie said as we walked out of the theater. I grabbed her hand and laced her fingers through mine.
"Ya, it was pretty good," I said.
"Pretty good? It was amazing!" she said back.
"What do you mean it was amazing? You were crying for most of it!" I pointed out.
"So, it was still a good movie," she said back.
"Okay, fine. It was a good movie. What do you want to do now?" I asked her.
"I don't know. Want to go out for ice cream? Snookies is pretty close by," she suggested.
"Sure."
We got out to the parking lot and made our way to my car. I opened the door for her and she giggled. I went around to the other side just as my phone rang.
"Hello?" I answered as I got into the car.
"Brayden? Where are you?" it was mom. She sounded so worried.
"We're just leaving the movie theater. What's wrong?" I asked.
"It's Owen. He got into a car accident. You have to meet us at Overton Med as soon as possible!" she practically screamed into the phone.
"Okay, okay. We'll be there soon," I said back and hung up.
"What's going on?" Hattie asked.
"Owen got into a car accident. We have to go to Overton Med," I said back starting the car. "Can you call Carly and tell her? I'm not sure if she knows or not?"
"Ya, I'll call her right now," she said back getting out her phone.
I heard her talking to Carly, but I wasn't paying attention. I was just trying to get to Overton Med as fast as I could, without breaking any laws of course.
"Ok, we'll see you there," I heard Hattie say as she hung up. "She's already there with your parents, Olive, and some boy named Ethan."
"Oh, Ethan is Olive's boyfriend," I said as we pulled up to the hospital.
I parked the car and barely let Hattie have enough time to get out of the car before I started running towards the doors.
"Brayden! Wait up!" Hattie yelled after me.
"Sorry," I said as she caught up, "I just need to see if he's okay."
"I know you do. Come on, let's go in," she said taking my hand in hers.
When we walked in, I immediately spotted everyone and mom rushed over to us. I let go of Hattie's hand and pulled mom into a hug.
"How's he doing?" I asked once I pulled away.
"The doctor said he's going to be fine. He broke his arm and ankle and he has a bad concussion, he's in surgery for his ankle, but nothing too bad," she said, probably more for herself than me.
