A/N: This perspective is right after the accident, just in case anyone gets confused. Thanks for reading!

I woke up on a gurney in the back of an ambulance. What happened? Why am I on this? Why does everything hurt? These thoughts were running through my head when on of the EMT's spoke.
"He's awake!" she yelled to someone, the driver I assume. "Can you hear me?"
I meant to say yes but all that came out was "uhg."
"Can you tell me your name and the last meal you ate?" she asked.
"My name i-is Owen and f-for dinner to-tonight we h-had pot roast," I finally got it out. I was speaking better but it really hurt.
"Do you know what happened?" she asked me, checking some stuff around me.
"N-no," I said, "I w-was just driving to m-my girlfriends h-house and n-now I'm here."
"Well, Owen, you were in a car accident. A pickup truck t-boned you after he hit a patch of black ice," said another EMT. This one was a guy. I didn't realize that he was even in there.
"Oh," was all I said.
"Is there anyone that we can call to let them know what happened?" asked the first EMT.
"Ya, you can c-call my m-mom," I said. It really hurt to talk. I must have cracked a rib or something.
"Do you have your phone? Or do you know her number?" the guy.
I looked around for my phone, but as soon as I moved, everything hurt a lot.
"I can't find my phone," I said, "her n-number is 812-103-4857."
He must have dialed her right away because I heard him talking to her. I tried to stay awake so they could tell me more about what happened, but it was just too hard and I was in too much pain. The girl EMT was talking to me, but I couldn't hear her clearly. I think she touched my forehead, but I couldn't tell you for sure because right after that, I blacked out again.

I woke up again in a hospital room with the door opening. A doctor and a couple of nurses walked in.
"Glad you're awake Owen," he started, "my name is Dr. Grant and I'll be taking care of you."
"Where are my parents?" I blurted out. It was a lot easier to talk now than it was in the ambulance. They must have given me some meds.
"They're here," he said, "and so are some other people."
"Is Carly here?" I asked.
"You know? I'm not sure. I'll go see after we talk," he said sitting down in a nearby chair.
"Okay," I said.
"So, as you probably know, you were in a car accident. It could've been way worse than it was, so you are very lucky," he started, "however, you have broken your wrist, ankle, and a couple of ribs. Your surgery was finished about an hour ago for you ankle. You also have a bad concussion."
What? I broke my wrist and my ankle? I had surgery? I thought to myself.
"Now, I know that this is a lot to take in right now," he said.
"No kidding," I mumbled.
"Do you want any visitors?" he suddenly asked.
"If Carly is here, I wanna see her," I said.
"Ok I'll go see," he said as he left.
As soon as he was gone, I lifted up my blanket to see my ankle. It was in a temporary cast. My guess was that they were going to put a real one on later. I also looked at my wrist. That was in a real cast, a black one. I was glad for that because I didn't want some bright color or something.
A little while later, I don't know how long, I could hear some people talking outside. They weren't that close to my room, but I could tell who it was. It was Brayden talking. Carly must have told him to come too, and probably Olive. The voices were getting closer, then the door opened.
Carly walked in first. She looked like she'd been crying and I think she still was a little. Next, I saw Brayden and he almost fainted. Olive had to grab his hand and arm to steady him. I think she asked him if he was okay, but I'm not sure. All of my attention was on Carly. She started to move closer to the bed, but then Olive started to cry, like a lot. Brayden said something to Carly and then he and Olive left. I was kind of glad for that, because I really wanted to see Carly.
"Oh my gosh," she whispered as she got closer.
"Carly, I'm fine. Really, I am," I said, trying to reassure her. I took my hand that wasn't in a cast and grabbed hers.
"Owen, have you seen yourself?" she asked. "You don't look fine at all!"
I just kind of laughed. I don't even know why, it just happened. She gave me a funny look and I stopped.
"Carly, I know I probably look terrible, but I don't feel any pain," I told her. Okay, that last part was a lie. I was in a lot of pain, but she didn't need to know that.
"I know you well enough to know that you're lying," she said.
"Can you help me sit up?" I asked her changing the subject.
"Um, sure," she answered. She seemed unsure.
I gripped her hand and with her other one she held my arm while I tried to sit up. Note the word 'tried' because I was epically failing. When we finally got me in a comfortable position, I was out of breath.
"Owen? Are you okay?" Carly asked me.
"Ya," I answered between breaths, "I'm just a little out of breath."
"I noticed," she said and she laughed a little. I laughed too.
"I love your laugh," I told her when we finished. She smiled and blushed at that, but it was quickly replaced by sadness again. "What's wrong?"
"I just feel terrible about this," she said.
"Why? It's not your fault Carly," I reassured her. It really wasn't her fault, it was mine.
"Yes it is Owen! If I hadn't suggested that you come over, this wouldn't have happened!" she practically yelled.
"Carly, just calm down. This is NOT your fault," I said, "I got into a fight with my parents before I left and I just wasn't paying attention."
"I still feel terrible," she admitted. I scooched over on the bed and patted for her to sit next to me. Once she did, I put my arm around her and pulled her into a hug.
"You shouldn't. It's not your fault," I said again.
"I know that," she said, but I didn't believe her.
"You know that I love you right?" I said, smiling at her.
"Ya, and I love you too," she said back.
