Brayden and I were in the car on the way to Carly's when she called me.

"Hello?" I answered.

"Hi Owen? This is Daniel," one of Carly's brothers said.

"Daniel why are you using Carly's phone?" I asked worriedly.

"Um, well, right now she's fighting with our parents, and um, I think I heard something," he said whispering.

"Heard what?"

"Like a punch or smack. Zach is basically hiding because he's scared," Daniel said. What was happening there?

"Are you for sure?" I asked him.

"Almost 97%. Carly said you were coming over later, when is that?" he asked.

"I'm on my way right now. I'll be there soon. Don't leave from wherever you are, okay?" I told him.

"Okay. Please hurry," Daniel said with a scared voice.

"I will," I said hanging up. I turned to Brayden and said, "Drive faster."

"What? Why?" he asked stepping on the gas more.

"Just do it, and when we get to Carly's, don't leave. And make room in the back seat,"I told him as he rounded the corner to her house.

"Owen, what's going on?" he asked pulling into her driveway.

"I'll explain later," I said getting out, "Keep the car running!"

"Okay!" he yelled as I shut the door.

I walked up to her house as fast as a person can walk with crutches. I texted Carly's phone and told Daniel to come open the door for me, but not to let his parents see him. I waited for a couple minutes until the door opened very slowly and there was a very scared looking Daniel and Zach.

"Hey guys, where's the fight happening?" I said in a whisper as I walked in.

"They're upstairs," Daniel said, clutching Zach to him.

"Okay. Do you guys see my brother in the car out there?" I asked.

"Ya," Zach sniffled.

"Good. I want you to go grab some clothes and whatever else you need for tonight and go get in the car with Brayden. Stay there until I come out with Carly. Can you do that for me?" I asked.

"Ya, we can do that," Daniel said, "Come on Zach."

"Okay," Zach said as they ran off.

I made sure they got there okay and then I went up the stairs to where the fight was. I could hear her dad yelling and either Carly or her mom crying, I couldn't tell from here. When I made it to the top of the stairs, her dad noticed me almost right away.

"What are you doing here?" he yelled. Carly and her mom looked over at me and Carly ran over to me and I engulfed her in a hug. She had a bloody nose.

"Did you hit her?" I asked, disregarding his question.

"That's none of your business," he yelled, taking a step towards her.

"Mr. Harris, back up," I said to him, putting Carly behind me.

"Who are you to tell me what to do in my own home?" he yelled.

"Rob, stop it!" Carly's mom yelled at him, trying to hold him back. The look in his eye was unforgettable. Pure rage and hatred.
