Chapter 13

Briar's pov
The next morning I woke up and saw that Myles was gone. He probably went to make me breakfast or something.
He got back a few minutes later.
"Morning beautiful." Myles says.
"Good morning." I say back.
"I made you breakfast in bed." He says and hands me a tray.
"Thanks." I say.
"You have to eat it all up because we have a big day tomorrow." He says and gets back into bed with me.
"I know. Do you know where the boys are taking you tonight?" I ask and start eating.
"No. Do you know where the girls are taking you?" He asks me.
"I think we're going some club or something." I reply.
"Cool. Just be careful." He says.
"I will." I say and rest my head on his shoulder.
After I finish eating, I get up and get dressed. Me and Myles walk downstairs and hear talking outside the door.
He opens it and Jessy, Abbey, Jordan and some other girls are standing there.
"We're ready to take Briar out!" Abbey says.
"Ok." Myles says and looks at me.
I give him one last kiss and walk out the door with the girls. He closes the door behind me. This feels weird. I haven't been without Myles for ages.
"Where are we going?" I ask Jessy who seems to be leading us.
"The club of course!" She says.
Suddenly I became nervous. Last time I was at the club, I got rushed to hospital.
"Are you sure that we should go there?" I ask and bite my nails.
"Oh Briar you'll be fine!" Jessy says.
"Wait!" I say and knock on my front door.
Myles opens it and looks confused.
"I love you." I whisper in his ear.
"I love you too." He whispers back.
Then I smile at him and get into the car with the girls. I can't stop thinking about how tomorrow I will be married to Myles. Even though we didn't get to complete the list, I will always love him. Then we get into the car.
"Hello?" Abbey says to me and pokes me.
"Finally! We've been trying to get your attention for ages!" Jordan says.
"You were thinking about Myles again, weren't you?" Jessy asks.
"Maybe." I say and smile.
"Come on Bri! Today is supposed to be about us girls!" Jessy says.
"Sorry for not thinking about the fact I'm getting married tomorrow." I say.
"Look we're here!" Abbey says and the car pulls into a space.
We all get out of the car and go inside. Soon enough we all start dancing and having a great time.
A few hours later (at night)
I'm about to go to the bar to order a drink when I realise that I've left my phone
"I'm just going to run home." I say to Abbey.
"Why?" She asks.
"I've left my phone there." I say.
"Ok but make sure that you come home soon." She says.
"Will do." I say and run off.
It's only three quarters of a mile to my house from the club so it wasn't that far.
As soon as I get back, I unlock the door and go to get my phone. Myles isn't there so that means that the boys have already collected him to go to their party. I'm just about to leave when I hear a knock at the door. I open it and see the police standing in front of me.
"Good evening sirs. Can I help you?" I ask.
"Good evening Miss. Are you Briar Nolet?" One of them asks.
"Yes." I reply.
"May we come inside?" He says.
"We have something important to tell you." Says the other.
"Of course. Come in, sit down. Would you like anything to eat or drink?" I ask.
"No thank you." They say.
"Ok." I say and sit down opposite them.
"We have some bad news." One of them says.
"What is it?" I ask nervously.
"I'm afraid that your fiancé has been in a car accident." The other says.
My heart stops.
"W-what happened?" I ask with tears in my eyes.
"Someone witnessed him and four other boys driving dangerously on the road. They said that your fiancé tried to stop the car because they were being to dangerous. We don't think that Myles had anything to drink but the others did. Then a man called Devon drove into another car and through a hedge. The car rolled into a river upside down." The man says.
I sit there in silence and think about everything we've been through.
"Where is he now?" I ask with tears spilling down my face.
"In the hospital. His leg was crushed." The other man says and puts his hand on my shoulder.
"The other boys are in hospital as well with similar injuries." The man says.
"We were supposed to get married tomorrow." I say and look at them with tears streaming down my face.
"I'm very sorry." The policeman says and wipes away a tear.
"Well we will give you some time to yourself and you are allowed to see Myles tomorrow." They say and walk out.
I sit there and cry. We were supposed to be married tomorrow. Now, we may not even get married. I walk out the door and decide to go for a walk into the night.
I can't stop thinking about what happened. I can't believe that Devon and the others could have been so stupid. Why didn't they listen to Myles? Why were they driving after drinking? How could they let this happen?
I bang my fists against a wall and cry even more.
"Briar?" A voice says.
I turn around and see Abbey.
"What's wrong?" She asks.
I hug her and cry on her shoulder.
"What's happened?" She asks.
"It's Myles." I say and keep crying.
"OMG! Has he broken up with you?" She asks and rubs my back.
"No. He-he got in a car accident." I manage to spit out keep crying.
"Oh my God." She says and hugs me tightly.
"Is he ok?" She asks.
"H-his leg was crushed." I say.
"He's going to be ok." She says and keeps hugging me.
I keep crying.
"I'm going to see him tomorrow. Will you come with me?" I ask her.
"Of course. Maybe it would be good if I spent the night with you at your house." She says.
"Ok." I say and we start walking back to my house.
Abbey comforts me the whole way back. I don't know what I'd do without her.
