"Jamie!" I smiled sweetly at my friend who looked ready to murder me. "Isn't it a fine night?"

A low, but powerful growl echoed off the walls of the huge office but I didn't turn, not even to see where the delicious aroma of cake was coming from. James helped me up, or rather forced me up when he saw that I wasn't making a move to stand up. He tried to shield me from the person from where the growl emitted from, but in vain.

I felt a powerful, tantalising aura making its way across the room and towards me. Cake. I gulped, and then wet my lips unconsciously. All my senses were on high alert and the fine hair on my limbs started to rise up due to the electricity in the air. I felt a tickle along my scalp and I couldn't help but take a cautious step forward, the need to move towards the source so deep that it almost felt like a physical tug in his direction. The beast inside had multiple emotions at large inside, the strongest one being desire. There was a thrilling anticipation that was steadily building within me, which was coupled with a few other emotions that I could pinpoint- desire, need, happiness. But the part of me that had been hurt before, that was partially broken, exercised caution, which was the only reason I didn't take another step forward.

He was my mate, he had to be. I had heard stories about the maddening power of the mate bond and there was no explanation for the way I was feeling. No reason I would want to go towards someone instead of away. From my peripheral vision I saw James move to stand in front of me, and along with him, other Silver Eclipse pack members surged forward as one, causing the male werewolf to growl again.

He certainly has a way with words.

"Let him come closer." I told James, putting a hand on his shoulder to comfort him, but also to make sure he didn't attack the grumbling alpha who looked ready to kill anyone who stood in his way. The strange alpha's eyes tracked my hands, but he didn't move, the rumbling in his chest only getting louder with each passing second.  For a man who had bad rumours surrounding him, the unknown alpha was surprisingly patient, but I don't think James' pushing his buttons any further would be good for either packs. I was pleasantly surprised by my stream of thoughts. I always thought that a wolf meeting their mate made them incapable of rationale thought, but here I was, being a peacemaker when I had never been anything close to one in my life.

"Move. Away. From. Her." The Alpha gritted out, a rawness in his voice that was deep and gravelly, like unrestrained thunder. James eyes flashed black, but I knew he finally caught onto what was happening. Coming between mates was frowned upon, and if the elders knew James stood between two they would give him a long lecture. He took a few careful steps away, but still stayed within an arms reach. The anonymous males voice was so, smooth. There was no other way to describe it.

The man who finally came within my line of sight with no obstruction was absolutely, heartbreakingly gorgeous. He had dark hair that was similar to my own, perfect lips and a straight nose. Was it the bond or was he the prettiest man I've ever seen. Handsome. Pretty. His silvery grey eyes confirmed what I had already guessed, he was my mate and he was beautiful.

"You're beautiful." He put his hand forward, presumably to tenderly stroke my cheek, or choke me to death for disturbing his meeting, but I put a hand up.

"Don't touch me." I backed away. "Not till I allow it."

"I can't touch what's mine?" He asked me confused.

"I met you five minutes ago, relax. I don't even know if I like your face yet." I spluttered, flabbergasted. Though I did like his face, a lot. And his hair. But with the tousled hair, and the broody confidence, you'd think he had a throne tucked away somewhere.
