13-I Have A Coach Now!

Ok it's all going to go well, i thought while i was in the locker room already changed. I heard three bangs on the door and i realized that it was one of the guys telling me it was time. I got up and picked up my book bag. I walked out of the locker room and was meet with Alexander. "Hey, you finished getting ready?"

"Obviously," I said while i gestured to my clothes.

"Its not from me."

"Then from who?"

"Michael and Jake."

"Why would you ask after i come out though?"

"Because Ethan bet me that i wouldn't. I just won 10 dollars." He wrapped his arms around my shoulders and walked me to where the guys were. I greeted them and Ethan exchanged the ten dollars to Alexander. It looks like Ethan is going to get broke if he continues this way. I got a hug from Jake and Michael told me that i'll do fine. I looked at Alex and Ethan, confused, but they shared the same expression as me. What the hell is wrong with these two? I pushed away my mental questions when the coach came up to Ethan.

"So who is the one that you felt needed to be on the team?"

Ethan pointed to me and said, "Dakota Hemmingfeild deserves to be on this team."

I waved to him and he looked at Ethan confused, "Do you know that this is an all guy's team?"

Jake butted in with, "I know coach but Dakota can play."

"You better not be trying to pull another Jake," he said sternly. 

Alex, Michael and Ethan started to laugh but Jake just smiled and scratched his neck. What did they mean by a Jake? I looked up to the coach and he chuckled at me. I shrugged and took the basketball from Ethan's hand. He didn't seem fazed about it and continued to laugh. I dribbled to the half court line and looked over to the guys. They quieted down and gave me thumbs up. I looked over to the coach and he told me that i had to shoot from half court, the three point line and from each corner of the upper court. I can do this, i thought to myself. I kissed the ball and dribbled twice. I shot the ball and it hit the rim. It circled the rim and finally went inside. I jumped up in glee and the guys did as well. 

I looked over to the coach and he shook his head as if he was content. I proceeded to do the other shots and only missed the corner shots. I picked up the ball and walked over to the coach. The guys filled in behind me listening intently. The coach was scratching his chin in thought and finally said, "I'll get you a jersey by Friday, but you must attend practices every Tuesday and Thursday during free period. Are you ready for that?" He held out his hand for me to shake and i said, "Hell yeah i am," while grabbing his hand and shaking it. Michael and Jake lifted me on their shoulders and Alex was dancing weirdly. I looked over to Ethan and he was talking to coach. 

I have a coach now! I can actually be good at something. I got put down by the guys and i just scratched my neck while everyone was celebrating. Jake walked up to me and asked, "What's wrong, love?"

"I don't know. It's just...I've never been part of a team before. It usually was just me and my brothers."

"Well now you are," he said while pulling me into a side hug. We all split up after the period was over because they had other classes while i had gym. Ugh i wish at least one of them were with me during gym. It would be more exciting then just exercising by myself. I started to walk out of the gym but Coach stopped me. "Dakota we have to talk." I walked over to him and he led me to his office. I sat down in the chair in front of his desk and he sat in the chair that was behind the desk. I asked, "Yes, Coach. What did you want to talk about?"

"I know that your a female and all but if your going to be on the team you have to work as hard as the others. In fact i will probably be pushing you even harder than the others because you are a female."
