Chapter 1

Nelly's POV (Has been edited)

As the teacher continues with math, I can feel Grayson's stare on me, so I turn and look at him asking,"Why you keep looking at me?" He starts grinning again and say,"Sorry my bad... It's just that your so beautiful.. I've never seen anything like it." When he said that, I almost immediately got lost in his eyes...Then I quickly snap out of it and gave him a low 'thank you'.

See the thing is I've never really had anyone say that to me before, besides my parents, and when me and Grayson locked eyes, I just felt butterflies throughout my entire body. It was so weird but, I loved it!

I just look down at my paper and blush. Thank God for dark skin.. Then he gently grabs my chin and say, while looking into my eyes,"You don't have to look down, because I meant what I said.'' I 'gently' grab his hand and placed it on his lap and saying to him,"I'm not shy I-I just..... never mind ....my names Nelly by the way." I smile as Grayson nods his head and say, "Nice to meet you Nelly..... That's a cute name by the way." He was blushing! I thank him, then turn back to my math assignment and continue working..

It was now time for lunch, and I am as hungry as a cotton pickin horse! So as soon as I open the doors of the lunch room, I am immediately hit with the great smell of cheese sticks! I walk to the line and grab some cheese sticks, a cupcake, some strawberries, and orange juice then head to my clic's table! Which is just me myself and I!
While I'm sitting down and enjoying my food, someone decides to sit in the chair across from me, so I look up and see who it is. An as you probably guessed, its GRAYSON! He gives me a welcoming smile and ask,"Hey, why are you sitting over hear all by your self?"
I sigh and I just feel like I can trust him for some reason....so I tell him,"Well people at this school don't necessarily 'like me' because they feel intimidated by me. All because one day, this girl named Julie had the nerve to come up to me and just start throwing all these racial slurs at me, like she called me a monkey and much much more an me being the more mature person I am, I just stood there and took it. Then she got mad because I didn't say anything back to her! So she decided to push me. And I WASN'T gonna take that so I slapped the sh- I mean hell out of her and her group of girls started to jump me. I tried to take them but it was ALOT of them cats, my cousin came in  the cafeteria doors and yeet them girls right of me. If your wondering where my cousin came from, at the time we went to the same school until that day because he got expelled, from knocking them out, but not on purpose his arms are just very strong. So now I sit here all by my self because all the kids here think I'm an 'angry black girl' and it sucked at first but then I was like, its whatever so yeah... That's why I'm siting here by myself." I tell him while trying not to cry at the memory. He gets up and give me a hug saying,"Thank you for telling me that and as LONG as I'm with you nobody will mess with you, I promise. Okay?" I just nod my head, because for some reason I can't speak, and that's new for me. The butterflies came back...

After lunch was over I just couldn't stop smiling! Grayson was quickly becoming my best friend, and I feel like I've known him for years! We talked the whole lunch period which was only like.. what 30 minutes? So we exchanged numbers.

And now I'm waiting on my mom to come and pick me up from school.

When her car finally pulls up, I skip to the car all happy and stuff! Pulling off, my mom asks,"What's got you all giddy Nelly?" Me and my brother just chuckle and I simply reply 'nothin' because if I told her what happened today, the fact that I made a friend, would make her swerve into a ditch and get out dancin'. I told y'all she was crazy....
