After a long day of theme park rides, theme park food (like giant turkey legs and funnel cakes out the ass), and the blazing sun, I was beat.
It was Kat's birthday, and last minute we all (Kat, Levi, B the bitch, and I) decided to drive up north an hour and a half to the Carowinds theme park. It was fun, but I was burnt to a crisp and exhausted.
"We should go again, but for Halloween," Kat buzzed in her seat in the front while Levi drove.
"Oh yeah, don't they do some special Halloween theme?" I pondered out loud, staring out the window and watching all the trees fly by.
"Scarowinds," Levi told us. B sighed excessively in the seat next to me. The girl hadn't smiled the whole day, well except once when we stood near the water ride, getting splashed by the huge wave.
Levi pulled up next to my house and I unbuckled my seatbelt.
"Happy birthday, Kat," I told her, punching her shoulder. She flipped me off but smiled.
"Thanks for the cheesecake."
"Sorry it's store bought, guess cheesecake isn't my forté," I laughed. "Bye Levi, bye B. Tell dad I said hi."
Levi beeped the horn as he drove away and I waved and made my way up the driveway.
Once inside, I hung my keys up and kicked off my shoes and headed for the kitchen. I grabbed some aloe out of the fridge (keep it in the fridge so it's nice and cold when you put it on the lava you have for skin when you get sunburn) and headed upstairs to my room. I immediately hooked my camera up to my computer, and while I waited for the pictures to download I pulled my hair up into a bun and brought up FaceTime.
I called Michael, but it rang endlessly so I hung up. I sighed and tried Luke next, who declined my call. I frowned and called Ashton, who also declined my call, but a second later my iMessage popped up and he said he was on the phone with Bryana. I groaned loudly.
"Maybe Calum will love me," I grumbled, trying him next, but his also just rang endlessly like Michael's did.
"Why does no one love me?!" I shouted, throwing my hands up in frustration. I blew a piece of hair out of my face and pushed my new glasses up my nose.
"Fine, I didn't want friendship time anyway," I mumbled, then shook my head when I realized I was talking to myself. Maybe they're on stage? But Ashton said he was on the phone with Bry. I sighed. Whatever.
I began scrolling through Twitter when I saw multiple posts about Michael and I at the concert the other night, how he "fucked up on stage" when he saw me, and pictures of Michael and I being all cuddly outside of the hotel yesterday morning. I sighed and smiled, silently gushing at how cute we were. I squirted some aloe in my hand and lathered in on my arms.
As soon as my pictures popped up on my screen, there was a knock at the front door, making me jump. I got up and jogged down the stairs, wondering who was knocking on my door at 8:00 at night.
"Who is it?" I shouted through the door, putting my ear against it. I heard shuffling and a voice finally came through.
"Pizza Hut," they replied and my eyebrows furrowed.
"I didn't order pizza," I told them, confused. "I don't even like Pizza Hut. No offense."
"Just open the door Meredith."
I sighed, already figuring out who it was. Only one person calls me by my full first name besides my parents.
"What do you want?" I asked him, shuffling my weight from one foot to the other. I heard him sigh.
"I just want to talk."
"We're talking right now."
"I see you're still as sassy as ever. Can you open the door?"
I hesitated, biting my lip. "I don't feel comfortable with that."
"C'mon Meredith," he laughed loudly, sending chills down my spine. "I'm not going to hurt you."
"You've said that before," I reminded him in a voice so soft I wasn't sure he heard me. But, being the idiot I am, I unlocked the door and cracked it open.
He was handsome. He was so handsome and a sense of nostalgia washed over me as I took in his illuminated appearance; his deep hazel eyes, short black hair and his chiseled jaw line that was sprinkled with a 5 o'clock shadow, his gray hoodie and blue jeans.
I remembered when I first saw him. It was during the fall season. I was 16 years old, he was 18. I remember I was slowly browsing the romance novels at the local library when he literally ran into me, sending his books flying everywhere, and I remember how I nearly keeled over and drowned in my own drool when I looked at him. He was the sweetest thing to me for 2 months, and, well, you know the rest.
"Hello," he chimed, offering me a small smile. I stared blankly at him.
"What do you want?" I sighed, already bored. I just wanted to edit my pictures and print them out.
He looked slightly taken aback by my bitchiness, which I expected. Back then I wouldn't dare say that to him, unless I wanted to get slapped in return. I let the door open a little more and leaned against the door frame, crossing my arms over my chest, as if I was silently challenging him.
"How are you?" He tried. I raised an eyebrow.
"Just peachy," I answered. He sighed, shoving his hands into the pockets of his jeans.
"Look, I'm sorry-"
I raised my hand, silencing him. He squinted his eyes at me for a second before putting on a blank face.
"Don't waste my time, Dylan. You've already did that enough."
He looks angry for a second, then closes his eyes and inhales and exhales 2 times. Next thing I know he's sitting down on the steps with his back facing me while he looks up at the night sky. I hesitate for the second time tonight, biting my lip and tucking a lose strand of hair behind my ear, then decided to sit down next to him.
We sat in silence for a while, just breathing and staring up at the stars.
"I've been taking anger management classes," he finally speaks, his voice coming out thick. I purse my lips.
"That's good," I said softly, playing with my fingers in my lap.
"Do you love him?" He asks. I'm thrown off a little by his sudden question and I glance at him. He's staring harshly at the ground, ripping a leaf into tiny little pieces.
"I don't see how that's any of your business," I said quietly. He stayed silent, still destroying leaves.
"Why exactly did you come here, Dylan?" I asked again, nicely this time. He tossed a handful of shredded leaves all over the steps we were sitting on and looked back up at the sky.
"You never came back," he finally said softly.
"I told you I wasn't going to," I reminded him. I gulped, my fear rising. I tried to push it back down into the chest I had it locked away in.
"I want you back."
