Wendy's POV

"Why did we move then? Why can't we continue to stay there?"

"When the doctors told me you lost your memories, I was scared that you would find out that Edwin's family was actually...not humans... Suddenly knowing someone is not actually human could freak you out, so I decided to move, without telling them. I also felt bad for them, especially Lucy...my only friend, Edwin's mother."

"If they weren't humans... Were they vampires then...?"

"How did you know? Your memories!"

"No mum... I actually started making friends with Edwin Jordan, just a few weeks ago, in school. To be honest, I didn't actually go to Jessica's house just now. I went to his. Edwin's.."

"What? They told you what they were?! They know who you are?"

"Yes, they told me and nope, they didn't know I was Edwin's childhood friend. They just know me as his...girlfriend..."

"GIRLFRIEND?" My mum exclaimed.

"Yeah, it's just fake, mum. Not real."

"Well... I'm not really that surprised. When you were small, you guys even held a mini wedding ceremony, pretending that you are getting married." My mum chuckled. I was bewildered at the thought of getting married to him and giggled.

"Oh, Wendy. Before I forget, come with me." She said and got up and made her way to her room. I followed.

Mum opened one of her drawers and pulled out something that looked like a box but with a key connected to the side of it.

"It's actually a musical box given by Edwin to you. I've been keeping it, wanting to return it to you once you regain your memories. But, I guess I'll just give it to you earlier." She said and passed it to me. I turned the key that was attached to it and music started playing. It was really soothing.

That night, I laid in bed thinking. I still couldn't believe that I was actually Edwin's childhood friend. I was wondering if I wanted to keep it from him who didn't know who I was or just be direct. I think keeping it a secret would be better... I really wanted back my memories that was lost before the accident but scared to remember my accident, like how I was hit. The pain I felt. I didn't want to remember those. I turned to face my bedside table where the musical box was. I took it and turned the key a few times. Music then started to play, but before I knew it, a sharp pain suddenly shot through my head and I close my eyes shut due to the pain. Visions started to form in my mind, they were flashing through my head as fast as lightning which made the pain even worse. I curled up with my knees touching my chin and hands on my head.

My mum and I just came out of Edwin's house, on our way to the market.

"Wendy, stay here. Don't go anywhere, especially the road, okay? Stay here and play. Mum's going to get some mushrooms only, I'll promise I'll be quick." Mum said.

"Okay." With that, she went into the market, leaving me by myself at the entrance of the market, but still inside.

The ball from my hands suddenly dropped and rolled out of the entrance, down the slope and onto the road. I ran after the ball but as my mum taught me, I looked in all directions to make sure that there wasn't any oncoming traffic. I then ran onto the road and picked up the ball. As I stood up, horning of a van could be heard coming from my right. It was already too late to turn back. Before I knew it, the van hit me and I flew over it. With a hard thud, I fell onto the floor, pain shot in all parts of my body, especially my head.

Soon, I could see blood flowing out of my head and the pain in my body was unbearable. I wanted to scream, shout and cry but no sound and tears came out. My vision soon started to get blurry. Was I going to die?

"Wendy!-" was all I heard and my vision blanked out, I also couldn't hear anything and then, I was totally unconscious.

The pain suddenly stopped as I slowly sat up and realize what had just happen. I regained the memory that I most didn't want to. My accident.

Edwin's POV

That night after I sent Wendy home, I laid in bed thinking about her. Could Wendy really be my childhood friend? But I couldn't be sure, all I knew was her first name. Nothing else. The only thing that I knew could identify her was the musical box with my name carved on the base of it. If she has it, I'm sure that's her.

I closed my eyes and recalled the last time I heard news about her.

I was only five and it was already three months since Wendy came over to my place to play. I really missed her... Mum even called her mum every now and then but they never picked up.

One day, I was in the living room playing by myself when the house phone rang. Thinking it was Wendy's mum, mum rushed over to it. I too, rushed to her side.

"Hello?" Mum said and pressed the loud speaker.

"Hi, this is Everest General Hospital. Is this Eunice's friend?"

"Yes, I am."

"Just to inform you, Wendy Winters, Eunice's daughter is currently being hospitalized due to a car accident. Mrs Eunice wanted to deliver this message to you and please do not worry, her daughter has already woken up from her coma. Thanks."

"How long has she been hospitalized?" Mum asked the lady.

"Three months-" mum immediately hung up and grabbed her coat.

"Edwin, go get your jacket." I quickly rushed to my room and grabbed my jacket.

We then made our way to the hospital. I didn't know clearly what was happening as I was still young, I just followed my mum. All I knew that this had something to do with Wendy.

"Mum...what's happening? Is Wendy in danger?" I asked as we rode the taxi.

"She got hit by a car and is in the hospital, but she's okay now. We don't have to worry; we're just going to visit her."

Soon, we arrived at Wendy's room. We slid the door open but nobody was inside.

We went over to the counter.

"Hi, may I ask where the patient went in room 301?" My mum asked and the lady went to check through her computer.

"She just got discharged half an hour ago."

My mum tried calling but to no avail.

With that, we headed back home. For the next few days, mum went to visit their house but was told that they have moved, mum even went to the hospital to ask if they knew about their whereabouts but no one knew. After a few other attempts, we gradually stopped finding them.

The words that she said the very last time we played together when we were five rang in my mind again.

"I'm going home soon; I promise I'll come again tomorrow." Wendy promised.

As I continue to recall it, I slowly drifted off to sleep
