Chapter 4 ~ Nightwalk

"Midorima-chan? Aren't you going home yet?" Midorima Shinako turned her head to her senpai from the literature club and shook her head.

"Later. I'm waiting for my brother," she replied. "Can I wait here in the room?"

Her senpai smiled and tossed the keys to the green haired girl. Shinako's eyes widened and tried to catch the key but ended up falling on the floor along with the it. Her senpai winced at her.

"Sorry Midorima-chan. I thought you would catch it," her senpai apologized, scratching her neck.

"It's fine," Shinako mumbled, sitting back up on the chair, a little embarrassed.

"Just lock the room after you use it. OK?"

"Sure." Her senpai smiled at her once more before closing the door behind her.

The literature club room was beside the third string's gym. Sometimes, she would see Kuroko Tetsuya praticing there. She saw him almost vomit once and she wondered if Shintaro did it too. But in terms of body, Shintaro was fitter than Tetsuya so wasn't surprising Shintaro was in the first string.

She looked out the window and saw the light was still switched on. Kuroko is probably practicing again. She thought to herself taking out a manga, Attack On Titan.

After reading a few pages, her phone vibrated against her bag.

Ding!

She reached for her phone in her bag, unlocking it before checking who messaged her.

Midorima Shintaro:
No need to wait for me. I'm going home with Akashi nanodayo.

She stared at the screen. She wanted to punch him for not telling her earlier. And she still couldn't get over the fact that he literally types nanodayo.

She let out a sigh before putting the manga and her phone back in her bag. She closed the lights of the room before shutting the door and locking it, putting the keys in her pocket. She looked back at the gym and noticed the lights were closed. He must have left already. She thought, starting to walk away.

There was a reason she always waited for Shintaro. She didn't like being alone. Especially at night.

She walked out of the school and onto the sidewalk. The dull lights on the sidewalk made her feel uneasy. She could hear her own heartbeat, pounding in her chest. She could hear the crickets.

Meow.

Woof! Woof!

Hiss!

She clutched her bag tightly and quickened her pace. She liked animals, but now, they seemed really dangerous. The flickering of a lamp post made her more terified than she already was. So you can imagine how her heart jumped out of her chest when she heard footsteps behind her.

She gulped and walked even faster, almost running. She turned into a corner and hid in the shadows. She closed her eyes when she saw something twitch inside the plastic bags beside the bin. She flinched as she inched away from the bin.

She saw someone's light blue haired head pass her and her eyes narrowed. Kuroko-kun? She thought, her eyebrows furrowed.

The boy stopped and looked behind him, almost as if he heard her. His eyes darted from the other side to the road to her hiding.

"Midorima-san? What are you doing there?" He asked as she stepped into the light.

"I thought you were someone else," she said, trying to calm her heart.

"Sorry."

"Why are you home so late nanodayo?" Was the first thing Shintaro said to Shinako when she stepped up foot in their house.

"I stopped by to get milkshake with my friend before he sent me home," she replied with a shrug, already walking up the staircase.

"He?" Shintaro's words stopped her from walking any further.

She sighed quietly, "Yes. He's from the basketball club. Third string, so you probably won't know him." She added. "His name is Kuroko Tetsuya just so you know."

His eyes narrowed.

Wow. I did think he actually cared. Tsundere. She thought before walking up the stairs and into her room.

She locked the door behind her and breathed a sigh of relief.

Her room made her feel safe. Secure. Secure knowing she made it through the day without dying. Or in her case, made it through the way without getting hit by a ball in the face.

Three of her walls were painted a pine green and the last one was painted a shade of lime green, there were star stickers on her ceiling which glowed in the dark. Her room was just opposite Shintaro's room so sometimes he could hear her watching anime in her room.

She dropped her bag on the bed and sat on her white beanbag chair in front of her television. She connected her computer to her television and began to watch Attack On Titan.

Seid ihr das Essen?! Nein, wir sind der Jäger!!

"Shinako!! KEEP IT DOWN NANODAYO!"
