Chapter 1
First day of school
As I pulled up to the school, Carlington Heights High, I noticed all the kids getting out of their cars, and off their bikes, motorcycles’, skate boards and etc.
Today was the first day of school, so yes; kids were dressed in their best. For me? I didn’t give a shit; I came in whatever I wanted to.
This was my eleventh grade year, so I was kind of use to the school; I knew it like the back of my hand. The first building was on the right, second building behind the cafeteria, –which is the fourth building- and the third building was across the our mascot-decorated-circle. We have more buildings, but they are irrelevant now.
Our school was one of those typical television ones, where everything was organized to the ‘T’. You have the basketball players in one corner, the football players in the other and the cheerleaders in their own corner as well. One group I never understood was the loners’ group; I never grasped my brain around that thought. I mean, why would people that want to be alone, want to hang with other people? People never ceased to amaze me.
I parked my car on the far side of the parking lot –I don’t want to take any chances of car damages by these freshmen and their new cars- and took the key out of the ignition. I opened my car door and froze. My eyes got stuck on Derek Matterwood, he just pulled up in his BMW and got out of the car.
I watched how his hair moved when the wind touched it. I watched how he took a delicate step-by-step towards the school, his nice round ass facing me, butt muscles contracting with every foot that hits the ground. My jeans somehow became kind of wet, and I looked down to see I was drooling.
Wiping my mouth, I got out of the car. I took my bag from the passenger seat, tossing it over my shoulder after getting out the car and closing the door. After locking the door and pocketing my keys, I started to walk towards the front of the school.
Keyshawn Lighthouse cut in front of me, almost making me stumble over my own feet out of shock. Ugh, I hated her. I hated round plump lady balls. I hated her long pink stunning dress, and her high matching hills. I hated how beautifully long her hair was and how it touched just above her butt. Probably I hated her so much because she went out with my man? Nah, it was because she had a sun kissed body and a face to punch.
Opening the doors to the school, I walked in and welcomed the fresh air. I went over to my locker from last year, and put in my combination. Something told me to turn around, and I did. I was met with Derek, walking my way. My nerves started to jump frantically and I prepared my self to say something. Here’s my chance, I thought. He was getting closer with every torturing second and my breath got stuck in my chest, so I just smiled at him. Derek arched his eyebrow and kept walking.
I started to think I ruined my chance and he only kept walking because he was disgusted with me, but my thoughts were confirmed wrong when I heard: “Hey baby how was your summer?”
That bitch! That man-stealing bitch! I started to name-call in my head and a hand touched my shoulder. I looked up and met eyes with Brandon, my best friend.
“Chill Charles, he’s not yours.” He whispered only so I can hear.
“I know, but I still hate her regardless.” I pouted.
Brandon knew I was gay, he knew my wet fantasies with Derek. He knew my dreams, goals and nightmares. We met in the ninth grade and only become stronger and eventually best friends over the two years.
I looked over to Derek and Keyshawn and saw them kissing. My stomach did back flips and not in a good way, I wanted to puke.
The school bell rang throughout the hallways and lockers started to slam against walls. The volume of the high way escalated and the kids of Carlington Heights High started to rush to their first period class. Brandon and I said our goodbyes and that we would see each other in lunch, then started to go our separate ways.
My class was in the fifth building, cooking class. I walked up to the door and took a deep breath. I knew that we wouldn’t really cook anything till like the third week, so I became prepared to be bored to death. I opened the door and my heart skipped a beat when I saw Derek sitting down in the second row, typing away on his phone, smiling. I loved his smile.
I wasn’t pretty much watching where I was going and I crashed into one of the chairs. My pinky toe started to throb with pain and I hissed in any girl screams that might embarrass me. Everyone looked back and Kevin snickered.
“Way to go, Charl-ie.” He said, making everyone laugh.
I started to fume with burning anger. I hated that name and Kevin knew it. My fucking name was Charles. My mom didn’t name me Charlie! I hated how every time some one heard my name, they would think of Charlie and start saying ‘owe Charlie, owe’ or ‘Charlie bit my finger’ from that freaking video on YouTube.
I stared at him for about five more seconds before saying: “C-H-A-R-L-E-S!”
The whole classroom fell silent and all eyes went on me. “My name is Charles.” I began, “Not Charlie.”
I knew I had to defend myself because when Kevin picks a victim to bully on Mondays, he keeps them for a whole week.
Kevin was about to say something back when the classroom door opened, and Mr. Parker walked in. I walked over to a desk and sat down beside some red-headed girl. She still had a smile and was obviously trying to hide it. I chanced it and glanced over to Derek who was already looking at me, I quickly looked away and blushed. I don’t know if he was looking because of my good looks, or because of the episode I just pulled.
Sighing, I just sat back and waited for Mr. Parker to begin.

The class consisted of safety rules; don’t do this, and don’t do that. He talked about always washing your hands before eating and afterwards. There was this one rule that had me thinking, he said don’t put your head in the oven when something is cooking. I mean, who in their right mind would do that?
The bell to signal class was over flooded our poor human ears and everyone got up. I went to my second, third and fourth period class, and then it was time for lunch. I bumped someone on my way to the cafeteria and I turned around to apologize.
My breath caught in my throat when I met stunning green eyes. At that moment, my words seemed to run away but I chased after them and started to speak.
“I’m s-sssor-rrrry Drrrrr, Drrrr….” I stuttered stupidly.
Derek seemed to notice I was trying to apologize and smiled at me.
“It’s okay, kid. I understand it was a accident.” He said softy. Without another word, he walked away.
I just made a fool of myself in front of Derek Matterwood. Good job Charles. Fuck my life.
