Chapter 18

Peter to the rescue

        My legs were tied.

        My paws were roped together.

        My muzzle was strapped.

I opened my eyes, flinching at the intensity of the bright light that illuminated the room I was held in. I checked my surroundings and wasn’t shocked at the fact that I was in a cage. I saw other animals caged up as well.

One that caught my attention was the cousin of our species; the wolf. It was a female… that much I can tell. I wondered what she was doing in a place like this. She wasn’t scared either… it’s like she felt like she… belonged.

I heard voices outside of the red door that separated us from the humans. “He’s a huge one.” Someone said. “Kind of different, but he’s still like the rest.” Another voice said, huskier. I recognized that one… the guy from the forest!

Everything came rushing back to me as I remembered the things that led me here. He shot me! Damn, I know I’m in trouble now.

I whined audibly as the fact that I’m maybe miles and miles away from Charles registered in my head. I smelled the atmosphere, looking for any recognized scents. I couldn’t find any… not even a distant one. How far can I be?

The red door opened and in walked in the guy with wavy blonde hair. I growled at him, wanting to kill him for taking me away from my mate. He just looked at me… looked down on me like he was better than me. This had my rage growing. Once I get out, I’ll teach him a lesson on taking wolves away from their damn mate!

“Holy shit! Aye, Michael… get in here.” He looked scared as he called the other human. “What?” Michael asked, rushing in. “His eyes were fucking glowing! I swear I just seen them all lightin’ up n’ shit.”

“Eyes don’t glow. Maybe the light is shining off the color of the yellow.”

I had long closed my eyes and looked the other way when the human with the wavy blonde hair opened his mouth in shock the first time. He was speechless and I knew I had done something wrong… again. I tried to calm down as I thought about my family. I tried to calm down as I thought about my mate. I tried to calm down as I thought about how I was going to get him back… about how everything is going to be okay… about how when I see him, I’m going to hold him tight and never let go.

I woke up, confused from my wonderful dream. Charles had been eating Roman Noodles –even the dream had him smelling good— and his sister was next to him eating Alfredo noodles. She looked just like him; it’s almost as if his sister were real. Everything was real, in fact. Now that I think of it, why would I dream about his sister?

Ohhhhhhhh. I mentally said to myself. The bond…. Damn, how long have I been in this cage? My wolf was itching to just break this cage open and run away to his mate, but that could result in exposure. All werewolves know that exposure is the worst thing you can do. Not any wolf can just break out of any cage. The humans would know something is up. Lord knows I want to do it, though.

All of a sudden, my head pounded and the air I was breathing in seemed to just… disappear. I started coughing uncontrollably. Tears formed in my eyes and my tail began to waggle on its own. The female wolf from the cage across from me began to howl. I heard other howls in the distance… What is she doing? My chest began to burn and I grew a massive headache. Ugh!
