Chapter 13
The bond
Derek’s Point of View
Friday, the day before Saturday. Saturday, the birthday celebration of my father. Exited? Maybe… I can’t wait to see him. The wolf stars are going to let him stay the whole day. Twenty four hours. The only problem is that he won’t be in the flesh, just the spirit. That’s good enough though, I mean, I’m not complaining. I can deal with that.
What I can’t deal with is the fact that my mate was scared of me. The fear was as clear as day in his eyes. What I did, I don’t know. Maybe the marks on Jason’s arms… but why the hell should he care what goes on with him? They’re not even good friends! Oh god, I’m losing my mind.
There was a few knocks on the door and I turned my head. “Honey, go answer the door. It’s probably your aunties. “I listened and got up, heading to the door.” I got this overwhelming feeling of pain like slashes against my arms and flinched, grunting my pain out loud so everyone could hear. The pain was gone as soon as it came and I stood there confused until the people on the other side of the door knocked again.
I opened it, greeting my Aunt Daryl and her two sons. They all smiled and the youngest one, still in his puppy stage, ran past me into the house. I smiled; it was funny how he never really did anything but play around. My mom said I was the same but worst.
Walking back into the den with the rest of the family, the slashes came back and I couldn’t stand my ground. I fell to the floor. “Aye, man. What the hell wrong wit ya?” I heard Peter ask me. I looked at him and was about to answer ‘nothing’ but then I felt one last lash,
I saw the ground before my vision blurred and I blacked out.

I woke up on a pile of furs, under the sunlight from the window shining in my room. It was day time already? It was just night. Trying to get up, the pain in my head laid me back down. Peter sensed my shifting and looked back, a worried look on his face. As he came closer, I could see the black under eyes from lack of sleep. “W-what happened?” I asked in a raspy voice.
“You’re mate. That’s what happened.” He answered with an expressionless face.
“How long have you known your mate, Derek?” A man in the corner asked me.
“Almost have a year now.” They all gasped and I quickly grew concerned. “What’s going on?”
The man stepped out from the shadows and I saw his full face. I also saw the marking under his ear, the sign of an elder. “What’s he doing here? There’s nothing wrong with me! Why did you call an elder?” I asked, panicked. There were only a few reasons why the elders would come see a pack member. It’s either something was wrong with the wolf, the wolf was dying and they would try to save them, they were coming to punish the wolf, they were congratulating the wolf or they were banishing the wolf from the pack.
