“Why don’t you ask Karen?”
My mother had some ideas, trust me.
“Mom, for the last time it’s for business. I’ll be back in two weeks” I repeated her for the hundredth time.
“And who’ll take care of her? She’s your wife now” she teased me with her spoon. Dad was eating calmly and laughing sometimes at me. I looked at him, searching for some help but he simply shrugged his shoulders smiling. I ran a hand through my hair sighing. Karen was my wife, I knew it thanks mom. But that wasn’t as if we were always talking and all. We barely knew each other and we never talked properly. I finished my cheesecake and headed to my room.
Maybe mom was right, maybe she could come with me. But will she accept to come with ME? I even didn’t know if she liked me and don’t tell me why, I didn’t know either. I married her because I felt something, the first time I saw her. That confused me. I probably saw her once, but something happened and I just said yes. I wasn’t against the engagement if that was what you wondered. However seeing her completely against it made me ill-at-ease. This was my fault she was acting like this or was it mine?
The day of the engagement, she made efforts to smile and to play the game of the ‘happy bride’. At my big disappointment, she was doing that reluctantly.
I sighed, I so needed sleep. After all, things always look better in the morning.

“Yassiiiiin!”Majda yelled crushing on me. She laughed and gave me a peek on my cheek, her 5 years old hands around my neck.
“Salam aleykum Majda. How are you little sunshine?”
“wa aleykum salam, fine” she laughed.
“Al hamdulilah” I showed her the bag of candies “look what I brought you miss, your favorite”
“Yeah!” she yelled and her friends came to see why. When they saw the bag of candies, they literally jumped on Majda.
It was my turn to laugh and I gave her, her tagada strawberries. I was used to come with bag of candies since I know how children love them.
Karen was behind them, waiting for them to come and finish the game. I bent down and put Majda down with the tagada strawberries, all the children took some. And so did I.
I rejoined her, she was wearing a long beige skirt with a bright red top and a pearly white hijab. Red definitely suits her, she was breathtaking.
“Salam aleykum, sorry to interrupt” I apologized.
“Wa aleykum salam, they needed a break anyway” she told me, looking at them eating the last candies.
We watched them playing together and eating the last tagadas. The situation became a little awkward and I didn’t want that to last.
