"It is possible that you dislike a thing which is good for you, and that you love a thing, which is bad for you. But Allah knows, while you know not."

Quran, Surah Al-Baqarah [2:216]

Samira picked up after the fourth ring. She has probably fought with her siblings for who was going to pick it up. I smiled inwardly.

“Salam aleykum Sam”

“Wa aleykum salam! Aw Karen I miss you so much!” she yelled excitedly. “It has been so long! How are you habibti (dear)?”

“Al hamdulilah, it could have been worst” I confessed sitting straight on my bed.

“I don’t think I understand. Did something happen?”

I let a long sight escape my lips and began the little monologue I mentally prepared in the car,

“I found the truth I wanted to now so badly since the day they had abandoned me”

 A

simple oh arrived to my ear and I could imagine the multitude of questions she wanted to ask. Fortunately she let me continue.

I told her about the title of Duchess my mother had, the opposition of my grandparents to the marriage between my father and my mother, the escape, the accident my father had before my birth. Eventually Samira would ask me for more details but most of the time, I couldn’t answer for no other reason that I only spent a day with Caroline.

I almost told her everything that happened and let me tell you, it really is better when you confess your worries to a friend. I was feeling relieved and little better.

“So now you want to spend another day with Caroline” she asked.

“I would love to, but the problem is the flight is in two days. Yassin would never let me go there, never. He doesn’t like her, anyway.” I complained crouching on my bed.

“And why not? She seems to be a good aunt according to what you’ve told me.”

“Ah thanks Sam, that’s exactly what I told him, but he doesn’t trust me. I really like Caroline and she is so sweet and nice, she is acting just like a real aunt. I’m clueless to why he doesn’t approve her. Maybe you have an idea since you know men so well!” I teased her remembering the day of the tour. Yassin had told me he liked the dress just before we separated.

She giggled and took a professional tone,

“Mmmh I heard sons-in-law don’t like their mother-in-law and since you don’t have… Well your aunt can be considered as his mother-in-law, that’s why he doesn’t like her?”

“Maybe” I repeated “anyway enough talking about me, how about you?”

“oh nothing in particular, I went to see the kids at the orphanage, they really are missing you. You only called them twice I think”

“Yeah but you know with all these news I don’t really have the mood to” I excused myself.

“When are you going to tell Aunt Ruqaya anyway. If she founds out you the truth after all these days, you won’t have a good arrival here”

“I know, I’ve been thinking about it. I made a big mistake by not telling her first. And Yassin doesn’t even know it completely” I sighed, I was really bad at making my own decisions. People have always guided me a day or another. Aunty Ruqaya has always been with me, she helped me and advised me in every step of my life. Henceforth I had to make my own decision, and I wasn’t use to it.
