We had arrived from Hogwarts a day before Christmas which meant that today was Christmas eve. Tomorrow Christmas day. For the first time in my eleven years of existence I was looking forward to Christmas. I was finally spending it with people who celebrated the event with a true fashion. After dinner it was a quiet affair, I decided to go to bed as it had turned eleven o'clock.
After an hour of being in bed I heard the door open and someone step into the room. My eyes flew open as the figure got closer to my sleeping form. "Cass." I sighed inwardly it was just my Brother. I opened my eyes in a flash and rolled over towards the wall so he could enter my bed. It was a Christmas tradition for us as a family to talk well into the night on Christmas eve as we usually had Christmas parties. As we lay their silently a thought came over me, "Sirius, what about Reg." I forgot that this Christmas he would be alone, for the first time since we were younger he had no one this Christmas except for our cousins who didn't care about traditions. We lay in comfortable silence for a long time until the door opened once more and someone else walked in. "Sirius." The voice whispered. Sirius pushed me closer to the wall as he rolled over and the figure got in beside us. "James." He said after a while. By this point I was starting to dowse into my brothers chest with his arms wrapped around my small frame.
At around 8am I heard panic foot steps running across the landing towards the room causing me to open my eyes with a start but I saw the boys sleeping peacefully so I tried not to move at all. Mr and Mrs Potter came thundering into the room in a panic. They had thought they had lost their son, now a days the death eaters would attack a home at night apparently it was the element of surprise. I had disagreed with this method but families lived in fear for a long time and I didn't blame them at all. I brought my finger up to my lips with a smirk on my face as they relaxed entirely. I saw James open his eyes slightly and took in the surroundings and my brother peacefully sleeping next to me. "You know Cass," He whispered, "He hasn't slept like this is weeks always awake worrying and being plague with nightmares." I smiled weakly with caused my brother to wake up and look at me with his eyes wide and innocent.
As we got out of bed and downstairs towards the kitchen still in our pyjamas. He threw me over his shoulder which caused me to break out into laughter which stopped James who was in front of us to turn around and laugh too. As he placed me down he stopped walking and grabbed me behind his back. I looked around him and took in the scene of Cissy standing in the kitchen with a sneer on her face. We both looked at her not really knowing what to do or say to our cousin. "There you are Cassiopeia we have been looking for you." I looked at her with my mask placed properly on my face, Sirius held onto my shoulders with the same mask on. I glanced a the Potters who were standing at the door watching the exchange with frowns. When Blacks communicated it was a very awkward affair. "She is under my watch Cissy." Sirius spoke formally to her. He hadn't lost his touch after all this time. "Well Sirius, I believe that the child has been ordered home by her mother." She sneered back causing my mask to fall. "Cissy please, I don't want to go back." Her face soften slightly but she didn't budge. "Go dress Cassie we are leaving." It wasn't a question it was a statement. I turned and spat back "NO." She had a sour look on her face. "Cassiopeia Felicity Black, you will go dress into appropriate clothing and we will be leaving immediately." I stared back with a defiant look on my face. "I believe Cissy I said NO." Sirius barked out laughter at her as she turned away. "Alright Cass be that way but I will be informing your mother where you are residing." She then turned and left not before thanking the Potters for caring for me. She did care but sometimes fights between the black turned ugly. I pulled away from Sirius' grasp and chased her down the street. "Cissy," I called after her she turned to look at me. "Please don't tell mother please." I was begging. "Cass I have to I'm sorry." With that she turned on the spot and disappeared from view. Sirius pulled me back inside and we just sobbed together. We knew the consequences for defying orders being disowned or not you could never escape from the punishments. He looked me in the eyes and spoke clearly, "I promise you Cassiopeia Felicity Black that she wont be able to get you any more." I stared back and spoke in the same clear tone. "I promise you Sirius Orion Black she wont be able to get you anymore." I saw the potters staring at us as they saw the walls that had been built around us broke.
The rest of the day went by with a hiccup except they all brought me presents. It was a large shock when they gave me presents. They said that Sirius had told them that when we were at home Christmas wasn't a big affair usually only between the children who were under 10 and normally a large party where the adults got drunk. I smiled at them in thanks as the paper was torn off all of the presents that I had received.
At the end of the evening I stared a the ceiling as I was lay in bed wishing the rest of my life could be as amazing as today was.
