-an: this chapter is super short, sorry-

Luke couldn't believe what his father had just said.

"I'm sorry Luke, we just don't want you getting into any mischief tonight." His mother explained. "If it were on another night, like on Fridays, it would be better." And with that, his parents left his bedroom, not even bothering to close the door.

Luke was in shock. Why couldn't he go? He had gone out so many other times, equally as late, if not later, and they had never cared! It wasn't like anything bad would happen, either, he was going stargazing on the school roof. There wouldn't be any illegal substances there, or any underage drinking. There wouldn't be any drunk driving, or risk taking. There would only be some fellow nerds, a couple blankets, some snacks, knowing Michael, and the stars!

Luke was feeling so many emotions, he couldn't even begin to describe them all, brewing inside of him. He was angry that his parents didn't trust him, he felt betrayed that they thought he would just party instead of actually going to the club meeting, he was upset that he couldn't go see Michael tonight, and he felt as if he was letting Michael down on one of the most important nights of his life. It wasn't even like he could contact Michael in any way, he always just resorted to talking to him at school. He sat down on his bed, out of frustration. He desperately wanted to go tonight, and see the boy with the purple hair get excited about what was beyond the atmosphere. He wanted to experience the excitement first hand, and see Michael's face light up, talking about the constellations. He wanted to learn about the origin of the stars, and the legends behind the constellation names. He wanted to watch the constellations move at night, and stay awake to see the sun rise. Luke wanted to do all this, but he didn't want to do this alone, he wanted to do it all with Michael.

Luke stood up, and looked out his bedroom window. The sun had already set, and he could see a handful of twinkling stars in the navy blue sky. There wasn't a cloud in the sky, and the moon was full, shining bright against the dark background. He stood, watching the stars for quite a few moments, when a realization hit him. Even though he wasn't with Michael, he could still be looking at the same stars as he was. Even though they weren't together, they would always have the sky to connect them, wherever they were.
