Hikaru never got a chance to see her parents.Her father, a great soldier, died while fighting bravely at the war without knowing that her lovely wife was already pregnant and will give birth soon.
Few days after giving birth to Hikaru, her mother received a painful news about the death of Hikaru's father.She mourned so much.She refused to eat, she just cried all day until her body became weak.
"Sabishisa no ureshiku mo ari aki no kure". (translation: In loneliness, there is joy too! An autumn eve.) Hikaru's grand mother uttered.It's a popular haiku to motivate a lonely or mourning person to go on and to see things positively.She wanted Hikaru's mother not to give up for she still have Hikaru in her life.
Hikaru's mother stood up and walked towards to her precious Hikaru. "Gomen ne, Hikaru...gomen ne.." (im sorry, Hikaru...im sorry) her mother uttered with unstoppable tears flowing down to her pale face.Then all the sudden, her weak body fell down to the floor.
She knew she had to be strong and to live for Hikaru. But her heart surrendered.And slowly, it stopped beating. Since then, Hikaru's grandmother took care of her.
When Hikaru is growing up, she realized that her precious granddaughter is incapable to speak. It hurts alot for her. But still, she tried her best to make Hikaru think that she is normal.
Hikaru and her grandmother earned their living by making and selling bento. (a single-portion takeout or homepacked meal, usually in a box-shaped container). Unfortunately, their profit is only enough for their daily needs.
Hikaru's grandmother really wanted to send Hikaru in a special school for the mute, but it is too expensive.She knew that Hikaru really wanted to study, so even she knew that other children will just make fun at her precious granddaughter, she sent Hikaru in a normal school.
"hey! watch where you going! " the girl yelled over Hikaru. "i thought you are just a mute! How come you are also blind? " she continued.Hikaru just bowed her head. "get out of my way, you poor orphaned mute!"
Her classmates is always making fun of her.They treated her as if she never exists.But she never quit schooling.She became more motivated to pursue her dreams.
She communicates to others by using her notebook where she writes all that she wanted to say.
