Chapter 6:
Lynn smiled at the recollection of the look of interest on Tyler’s face the day before. She didn’t have a meeting with him that day, but her show aired their first piece on his artist’s new show, so he called her to thank her for a wonderful job.
He didn’t ask her out.
The next day, he called again to schedule an appointment with her producer, but didn’t ask her out.
This went on for the rest of the week, and by Friday night, Lynn was wondering if he’ll ever ask her out soon, or would he make her ask him out? The thought of asking out Tyler Wilson made her nervous. But if he wasn’t going according to the script she had mapped out in her head, then she’d have to suck it up, and ask him out.
That scenario made her dislike him even more. Couldn’t the guy just follow her plan and ask her out? Given that the plan she had was all mental, she highly doubted he would be able to follow them.
“I told you guys my radar wasn’t off!” Stella’s statement pulled her from her thoughts as she watched her friend add a fist bump and a happy dance to her proclamation.
Lynn laughed and gave her a push so she ended up falling on the couch beside Greg. After a week of working with Tyler, and seeing his interest in her, she was confused as to why he wasn’t asking her out.
But Stella assured her it was only a matter of time, and they began thinking up the revenge plot. The four friends were now talking over strategy for ‘Operation Getting Back at Tyler Wilson,' which they deemed a mouthful, so they shortened it to GBTW.
Lynn was out for blood. It was almost as if her entire purpose in life was to make Tyler pay for hurting her. She was contemplating googling ‘voodoo dolls’ to try out one on him, but that seemed childish. But then again, if it worked, she might be happy about it. On the other hand, it wouldn’t be as satisfying as having him fall for her just to pull the rug out from underneath him; have him feel how it is to have your love thrown back at you as though it were worth nothing.
Munching loudly on her potato chips, Stella turned to Lynn, pulling her away from her murderous thoughts. “When is this exhibit scheduled to open, again?”
Lynn scrunched up her face in concentration. “July 30. About three months from now.”
“Good. You have time to get this loser to fall for you. So I suggest you turn on the chaaarrrrm,” Stella advised.
“But not too much,” Julia interjected, “Just be yourself, and act natural.”
“She should ‘act’ like she’s acting natural; and act disinterested!” Stella suggested.
“But acting to ‘act’ natural is not really natural,” Julia countered.
“She should act nonchalant, while acting naturally disinterested. That’ll get him wondering about her,” Greg offered.
“Stop with the ‘acting!’ It’s confusing me,” Lynn interrupted the ‘acting’ saga.
Her phone ringing prevented anyone from responding and had everyone’s attention captivated by it's shrilling sound. Checking the caller’s ID, though she had a gut feeling of who it was already, and saw that it was none other than the devil himself. She looked at her friends, then back at the phone, then again to her friends. From that hesitation alone, the other three guessed that it was Tyler calling. Stella gave her a ‘thumbs up’ while Julia waved her on encouragingly and Greg just smiled at her.
