Chapter 5:

Lynn was a tad bit nervous, come Monday morning. The past weekend was spent on a shopping spree she couldn’t really afford, but thank heavens for credit cards, right?

She really needed a new outfit for her meeting with the dreaded Tyler Wilson, and ended up with several more than she’d bargained for. They were all needed and essential, she guaranteed herself, if this plan had any chance in hell of happening.

Stella and Julia strategised with her all weekend, and Greg added in a couple of words of wisdom he got from the talk shows he watched, but more often, he just kept out of their way. All she had to do was play it by the book. Flirt a little; smile at him, but keep it light, she didn’t want to appear desperate.

All the old insecurities came back. She didn’t stand a chance in high school, so what made her think she could actually make a guy like Tyler Wilson fall for her now? Putting aside the fact that she didn't actually like him or anything, the plan looked good in theory, but when it came to the follow through, Lynn wasn’t so sure she would be able to pull it off. Stella assured her she could, and Julia told her that Tyler would be putty in her stilettos, but the feeling of uncertainty still tugged at her. She really wanted to believe she was able to do this; and it’s not like she’s never dated before. Guys ask her out sometimes, she wasn’t hideous looking or anything, but she wasn’t a supermodel either, and this wasn’t just some guy, this was Tyler Wilson, the guy who broke her heart and humiliated her, without even trying too hard.

Lynn just hoped she didn’t end up strangling him rather than smiling at him.

Crunch time came when one of the studio guys said that a Tyler Wilson was on his way to her office. She smoothed out the wrinkle from her beige, knee length straight skirt and fixed her silk blouse as she headed towards her office, and saw that he had beat her there.

He was facing away from her, but when she called out to him, he turned to her and she saw him smile in recognition, whilst giving her a once over.

He was totally checking her out! When Stella had suggested such a thing at their lunch last week, she thought she was crazy, but the guy was checking her out. Maybe getting him to fall for her wouldn’t be as hard as she thought it would be. With that thought Lynn smiled inwardly, a dark victorious roar that threatened to spill from her lips. Luckily, Tyler didn’t notice the darkness in her eyes.

“Ah, Lynn Parker,” he said holding out his hand to hers.

“Tyler Wilson,” she said taking his hand, trying to force a bright smile on her face and not an arctic glare.

“Pleasure to meet you, again,” he smiled.

“Trust me, the pleasure is all mine,” she responded tightly, pulling her hand from his grasp.

“So,” she said to him, going around him to sit in her chair behind her desk, “Mr. Wilson, this new artist of yours is causing quite a storm, are you sure I can’t convince him to come on our show?”

“Call me Tyler,” he told her, taking a seat on one of the chairs opposite her desk, “And I’ll call you Lynn; if we’ll be working closely together for the next three months, I think we oughta get formalities outta the way, don’t you agree?”

She smiled sweetly, or at least she thought it was sweetly, and nodded in consent.

“And to answer your question, no; my client was unyielding about not making a public debut. He’s a little shy, and was quite surprised when his works became so famous,” Tyler related to her.
