Chapter 8: Game on!
Monday morning saw a bright and chipper Lynn Parker. Her smile came easier, her steps were lighter and she portrayed the confidence of a woman who got exactly what she wanted.
A total contrast to the woman Tyler first saw. The big, bright smile she shot him was returned with zest. When they sat down with Lynn’s boss to go over some detail for the show, Lynn made sure her chair was a lot closer to his than normal.
If he was surprised by this, he didn’t show it, and Lynn felt confident that when she asked him out, he’d say yes.
First she planned to flirt a little, bat her eye lashes, act somewhat coy, all the while flirting. She watched a few videos on ‘youtube’ and practiced all of yesterday, so she was certain she got the gist of it down to par. Minimal touching and show interest by looking directly in the eyes.
Oh yeah! She so got this! Feeling very victorious, though she didn’t actually accomplish something yet, Lynn drowned out whatever it was Tara was saying. She didn’t even realise the meeting was over until she felt Tyler getting up to shake hands with her boss.
Lynn got up, smiled at Tara, and allowed Tyler to hold the door for her as they both left the office. They were heading to Lynn’s office and she was about to speak- but he spoke first.
“What’s your policy on dating clients?”
Taken aback by this, she had to scramble back in her brain to process his words. “Umm, nonexistent sometimes?”
Lynn cursed him in her mind- she had planned out everything she wanted to say to him, and now he goes and throws her for a lope by deviating from her script- again!
“So if I ask you out, you’d say?” Tyler prompted.
Oh no he didn’t! That’s totally unfair! Lynn was supposed to be the one asking him out! Not the other way around. Shaking her head, she pulled herself together. No way was she letting herself look like an idiot- again! So he didn’t follow her plan? She’d improvise... no sweat!
“I don’t know; it depends on whether or not you’re asking.” Giving herself a mental pat on the back, Lynn smiled brightly.
Tyler smiled back at her. “Well then, I’m asking.”
“Well then, I’ll have to think about it,” Lynn replied in kind, and paused for two seconds before replying. “Okay. I’ll go out with you.”
Tyler smiled at her, his eyes twinkling. “Great. How about we go out to dinner tonight?”
“Tonight?” Lynn wasn’t sure she was ready for such an impromptu date.
“Or was Stella not kidding when she said you don’t eat dinner?”
Lynn laughed at that, and decided what the hell! “I eat dinner, sometimes,” she teased, “luckily for you I was planning on eating dinner tonight.”
“Lucky me,” Tyler agreed.
**
A giddy Lynn Parker stumbled into her condo after work. She wasn’t hung over or anything, but she had the feeling of an adrenaline rush coursing through her body.
Tyler Wilson asked her out. That wasn’t the reason she was happy though. The reason she was beyond giddy was that she’s somewhat on the path of getting him to fall for her. The plan didn’t seem so impossible now, did it?
