Chapter 14: Funeral

Chiku

Today was the day. Everyone was dressing in black and grabbing flowers for the funeral. I sat in my desk tiredly as I kept working on all the work. Repairs needed to be done and missions also needed to be done.

This will be the death of me.

I looked down at my black Kimono. It was simple but has a red belt to match my hair. I skipped the disguise and just wore my mask. ANBU checked in and told me they were going to go to get ready every now and then.

It was ten minutes till it starts and I got up. I flashed to my spot up front along with other ANBU who had changed into funeral clothes. We all had our masks off and hidden. No one knew who was who. Only me of course.

My mask was inside my kimono and was slightly cold against my skin. Soon the elders stood up and began to talk. I zoned them out and everyone around me. I stared at the stone upfront with a couple pictures. My heart clenched when I saw the one of a younger me with my team and the old man eating ice cream on the hokage monument.

That was before the incident.

I had a big smile on my face in the picture and had ice cream dripping down my face. The old man and sensei were laughing at me as they too had ice cream on their face. Soon we were all laughing at each other.

My chest hurt a lot as I thought about all the happy times with the old man. He was like my grandfather, he always took care of me when he could. Even when my team was killed he comforted me and helped me move on.

I'm gonna miss him

I hadn't noticed everyone leave and was now the only one standing there. I felt a hand on my shoulder but I just stayed here. Rain was pouring down.

"Chiku the funeral is over, you can go home now" I heard Kakashi say gently.

I stared some more at the stone. It almost felt like this was all a nightmare.

"Kakashi?" I asked quietly.

"Ya Chiku" he said while kneeling beside me.

"Why does it hurt so much?"I asked, referring to my aching chest.

"All I can say is it's grief. You miss him" he said while also looking towards the stone.

His eyes seemed to land on the picture with me in it and he understood.

"Come on let's go Chiku." He said as grabbed my hand and lead me away.

"I have to go back to my office. There is still a lot of work to do." I said before turning towards the building.

"Take care Chiku" Kakashi said before I flashed away.

When I appeared at my desk I poofed into my ANBU clothes but stayed with my actual look, not my disguise. As I sat down the two elders walked in and had a stack of paperwork in their hands.

"Here is another stack of paperwork." The old woman said as she set it down.

I sighed and grabbed my pen.

"Have you found a new hokage?" I asked as I began on the work.

"Tsunade Senju, Jyira is going to look for her along with Naruto Uzamaki." She said as they started leaving.

I just nodded in understanding and kept working on paperwork.

Ugh, please hurry Naruto.

Maybe if I finish I can work on my journal. It's been a while since I have even had time. I kept working for what seemed like hours. Once I finished I looked over at the clock. It was 11:00 pm.

Soo it was hours.

I took my journal out from my kunai pouch and started righting the events of the past few weeks. It took up many pages as I described the many battles and loses. Before I knew it I had finished and my wrist ached from use. I sat back in my chair and thought about what to do now.

Maybe I should jog.

I poofed into regular clothes, Shorts and a t shirt. I jogged around the village till the sun started to peek over the horizon. I then poofed into my disguise and kept jogging when I felt people nearby. I was surprised to see Naruto and Jyira heading toward the gate.

"Chiku!!" Naruto yelled as he waved me over I jogged over and stood in front of him.

He grinned at me like usual.

"Hey we're going to find the next hokage, believe it!" He said happily.

"I heard" I said as a small smile appeared on my face.

"Wanna come?" He asked excitedly.

"I'm sorry Naruto, but I can't. Without a hokage I have to do all the paperwork while assigning all the missions and jobs." I said as I sighed sadly.

"Well don't worry Chiku, I'll get a hokage and you won't have to work as much." He said determined.

"Tell ya what Naruto. Here is one of my special kunai and if you're in trouble put some chakra or blood on it. I'll flash to you and help" I said while handing him the kunai.

His eyes widened at it and he put it in his weapons pouch.

"Thanks Chiku, Bye!!" He said while they walked through the gate.

As he skipped off, Jyira looked back at me. I mouthed protect him and Jyira nodded in understanding before turning back around.

Be safe guys.

I poofed into my gear and actual look before flashing to the office. I appeared at my desk and groaned. Tons of paperwork had magically appeared while I was jogging.

That's just great.

I sat down and got to work again. My thoughts turned to Naruto. With no hokage, criminals will take it as a chance to attack. I'll have to increase guards on the gate. Maybe I'll just patrol at night since I'll have no work.

I really hope they hurry. The village needs a hokage and soon.
