Three days have passed and the girls still haven’t apologized to me for what they had done that night at the spa.  I haven’t really thought much of it until today when I realized that the school bash was coming up in a few days and the girls and I haven’t even gone shopping for it yet.  Wesley has been real quiet lately saying that he’s too busy to continue writing the song that we have to perform in several weeks.  My mom and dad have been fighting about god knows what.  As for me, I’ve just been extremely calm about all of these situations not wanting to make them worse.

“How’s the song writing going?” My father asks me while we’re eating dinner.

“Um, we haven’t really worked on it lately,”  I say shyly.

“Well why not?”

“We just haven’t been doing anything.”

“Well-“

My mom cuts him off. “Honey, just leave her be, I don’t think she wants to talk right now.”

And this is the reason why I love my mom.  She always knows when to stop my dad from asking me questions and she always knows what to say.

“Damn it Grace, can you just let me talk to my daughter?  I’m curious, is that so bad?” He raises his voice a bit which scares me.

She keeps her voice monotone and looks down at her plate. “It’s bad when you can’t tell that she’s uncomfortable and doesn’t want to speak Jameson.”

“Why does she have to be uncomfortable? Is there something you’re not telling me Preston?   How about you Grace?”

“Dad stop, it’s not worth the fight please.”

“We’re not fighting, just discussing and if you want to keep it this way then I suggest you watch your tone with me young lady.”

“What tone?”  I ask quietly.

“There it is again.”

“Jameson.”  My mom puts down her knife and fork.

I feel myself flaming up inside and I just don’t know what to do.  I can’t keep my mouth shut. “STOP YELLING AT EACH OTHER.  Do you want to know what’s bothering me?!  The fact that the two of you won’t stop fighting is just making me upset.   You’ve been at each other’s throats for the past couple of days.   Just stop and let me have some peace, please.”  I take a deep breath.  “Now if you would excuse me, I would like to go to my room.”

My mom nods wordlessly in approval.

I run up to my room wanting to slam the door, but I decide not to.  I race into my bathroom and fall on the floor.  After a few seconds I get up and stare at myself in the mirror.  My makeup is running and my eyes are bloodshot red.  I take off my clothes and take a steaming hot shower.  I can’t stop thinking about what just happened at dinner.  The fact that my dad would just scream and my mom for taking my side is sickening.

I decide that I’m too stressed to do any homework or check any social media site so I just crawl into bed and close my eyes.

Not thinking about what had happened the night before, I pick out my outfit for today.  I curl my hair, and pick out a cute animated sweater, dark jeans, and wedges.  Avoiding both of my parents, I leave the house early and go for some Starbucks before school starts.  I order a caramel frap and sip on it all the way to school.  When I arrive, I see Lotti waiting in front of my regular parking spot with cupcakes in her hands.
