The next few days passed by slowly and quietly. Grace and Samuel were still disappointed that they had no decision about the school they go to. Finally, the day before the first day of school. Nothing made the day any better, except for just staying with her grandma the last hours they were there.

That day seemed to last forever, but Grace liked it that way. She liked that she could feel like it was days, maybe even weeks, before they had to leave. Grace and her grandmother talked as they picked apples off Grace's grandmother's apple tree. Surprisingly, Samuel came out, too. Nobody even asked him to either. Samuel was the person to climb the tree way up far and get the apples, Grace picked the low apples, and their grandmother put the apples in the basket.

When night came, Grace nor Samuel could sleep. Their sleep felt like it lasted forever, but that was in a bad and a good way. Grace wanted to wake up to sunlight, and to run out to the kitchen and see her grandmother one last time. But that would all go too quickly. Grace was trying her best to think of good thoughts, but that was way too hard. The only good thought that that could pop into her mind was "What if there are people like my old friends?" but then another thought always pushed that one away, "What if they're are all bullies, people who want to hurt me more than to be my friend? What if I can't make any friends? What if I make a fool out of myself again? What if I can't see Samuel while we're there?" But those were all bad what ifs. "Why listen to the bad what ifs, they just mean what if this terrible thing happens, but what if it doesn't happen?" those were the words her father would always say in a what if situation. And with that it was morning...
