"Who's this, sweetie?" her grandma asked. " Oh, um... This is Elijah." Grace said with fear. " Where did he come from? There's no house around here?" Grace's grandmother asked. What should she tell her? Or should she even tell her anything? "I don't know I just found him here, I guess?" said Grace. She didn't tell her grandma anything she didn't need to know yet, but at least she didn't lie about anything, either. "Where's Samuel? I thought you went to go get him?" asked Grace. What was her grandmother going to say next? Or what was Grace going to say next? There was a long silence. Grace could see her grandmother's eyes staring straight into hers. Grace wondered if she could see straight through her lies into the truth, the terrible truth. Grace stared down at the ground, trying not to look back into her grandmother's gaze, trying to forget everything that had happened today. Trying to forget everything that had happened in the past few months. Trying to forget everything. Instead of the thoughts going away, they whirled around in her head. Grace started crying, still looking down at the ground, hoping that her grandma wouldn't notice. But she did notice. Grace didn't know how hard, or how much she was crying, but it was enough to make her half deaf grandmother notice. "Grace, what's wrong dear?" her grandma asked. "Ya, are you okay?" Eli asked. "It's nothing, I'm just going to miss you, when I leave for the new school." Grace said to her grandma. Grace couldn't believe she just said that. New school? She's not going to the new school without Samuel. Or even the thought of Samuel still being lost.
