"Excuse me ma'am? Do you need a ride?" A white man said pulling up in a red truck.
"No thank you." I said in response. "I'm fine."
"Come on, I insist." He said with a crooked smile.
"But I'm going the other way." I said innocently. Fiddling with the tiny rock on the sidewalk. "That would be out of the way for you, wouldn't it?"
"Nahhh," He dragged out. "Its fine. Hop in." He chuckled.
As I got in the car, I didn't notice anything out of the ordinary about him. He made a U turn and headed back south, but I had to keep reminding myself to keep my head down.
"Why are you wet?" He asked sneaking a glance at me.
I responded dryly. "Swimming." Then he asked, "Is that your hair?"
Really? I thought to myself why is he asking me this? But I just responded, "Yes, yes it is."
"I've never seen a black girl with long hair like that before, and I've met a lot of black girls before." He said smartly.
I put on a fake smile, forgetting he couldn't see my face.
"Has your mom ever told you not to get in the car with strangers?" He chuckled.
"My mom's never given me any life lesson." I spoke sharply.
"Aww its alright." He said. For a few seconds we sat in silence for a while.
"Where are we going?" I asked frightenedly.
"To my house. I forgot my wallet at the house and I wanted to give you some change." He said nicely.
"Oh, I appreciate that." I said back respectively.
We pulled up to a nice lavish house. And I admit, he doesn't look like he would own a house like this.
"You wanna come on in? Its hot and humid tonight and I don't have air in my truck." He said bluntly.
The truck he was referring to was a 1955 Ford F-100 that he was restoring,
"Sure." I said getting out the car slowly. I wrapped myself up tightly in my rob and walked inside.
"Want something to drink?" he says.
"Oh a glass of water would be great! Hey where is your bathroom?" I said loudy.
"3rd room on the left." He shot back as I heard dishes in the kitchen clink.
I sat on the side of the tub, thinking everything through. He seems like a nice man, I thought to myself. Slowly, I shuffled out of the room and seen my water sitting on the table. I picked it up and took a sip.
"This water taste funny." I said going it a type of look.
"Well its from the tap. Sorry." He said humbly.
●●A Few Minutes Later●●
"Ready to go?" He asked as he swung the door open.
"Yeah, just let me finish my water." I insisted.
As I we walked out the door and reach the steps, I started to feel a little woozy, stumbling. I felt the world spinning around me. As I fell to the ground I seen his demented smile staring at me.
"I don't feel so good."
