We stare at each other for a moment before I break the silence, exhaling the deep breath I'd kept to take everything in.
Everything was surreal.
I look back down at the note and skim over the part where Clark was offering to help me escape.
"I want to leave." I blurt, handing him back the piece of paper.
Clark presses a finger to his lips and I keep quiet; nobody could hear even a fraction of our conversation.
Bringing out a pen, Clark scribbles more things on the back of the paper.
When the time comes you'll be able to escape easily. Drink what I'm about to give you when the time comes and your scent will be nonexistent. I'll be waiting for you east of Blood Moon's territory edge where the interstate is.
A small bottle with dark yellow liquid inside is slipped into my palm before the piece of paper is ripped into tiny pieces.
"How am I supposed to know when 'the time comes'? I ask, making quotation marks with my fingers.
"You'll know; I have to go but we'll talk again soon." Clark gives me a quick tug before walking away.
Only then do I notice he also had the same smile as my Mom...our Mom. I wonder how he found out about her death and how he reacted; many questions were already starting to pile up.
Turning to face the kitchen, I spot the large fridge and hunt for something to nibble on; the prospect of escaping had removed most of my hunger.
I look down at the tiny bottle and place it inside my bra under my armpit.
Hopefully, it wouldn't smash.
...
I don't see Clark later on that day and conclude that he's in a meeting with Dmitri. Catching up on Darius and Marina made me feel guilty for choosing to leave without telling them it's for the best; telling them would be a serious mistake that would most probably result in my brother's death.
"Nobody's ever chosen to stay in the cage for a whole week. Damn, Luna, you're as tough as nails." Darius' brows shoot up when I tell him and Marina why I'd taken so long in the cage.
Dmitri was just as stubborn as me but I didn't class it as defeat; I still didn't agree and never will to his crazy mating in public mumbo jumbo.
"I thought I could change his mind but I was wrong." I shrug, having to put on an act of regret.
I couldn't be a Luna like this.
"It takes a while buy you'll get used to the Alpha...eventually." Marina snorts.
Eventually was the word.
From the training pitch, I watch from afar as Clark and Dmitri shake hands before my brother climbs into a sleek red car and zooms off into the distance.
I guess it was now up to me to work everything out.
Dmitri's bright eyes catch mine and he nods his head towards the house, his heated gaze raising goosebumps along my arm and makes me shiver slightly.
"I'll er... see you guys later." I murmur distractedly, my wolf's yelps intensifying the mate pull.
"Sure." Darius snickers.
I follow Dmitri inside, following his scent when I lose sight of him. Suddenly, I'm engulfed by his scent as I'm pulled against his warm, strong scent. I lean against the wall and my arms suddenly wrap around his neck as he buries his face at the crook of my neck.
