Chapter 9

I woke up to Two-bit screaming my name in my ear, and Sarah bouncing up and down on the couch, occasionally hitting my legs, which really hurt. I shot straight up, and screamed. The whole gang rushed into the living room, Sarah stopped jumping and Two-bit stopped screaming in my ear. But he did stand up, and looked to the gang.

"She's awake," he announced. They all rolled their eyes and muttered remarks to Two-bit about how annoying he is. I stood up, and slugged him in the back. I knew I didn't hurt him, because I was still groggy, and hadn't gained all of my strength back yet. But that didn't stop him from releasing an 'Ow!' As I turned around and covered back up on the couch.

"That hurt," he whined.

"Yeah, I'm sure it did," I muttered sarcastically, and I closed my eyes. Two-bit tried his best to yank the covers off of me, and I just gripped even tighter onto them.

"Come on, Riley!" He got out in between his grunts of effort. "You gotta get up!" With that he had managed to pull me off the couch, by my covers. I hit the floor with a loud thump. I still had covers around me, and I rolled under the couch, because I knew Two-bit would never fit under there. He groaned in frustration, and he dropped down on the floor, and looked me in the eyes.

"Really?" He asked. He sounded somewhat annoyed, but yet amused at the same time. I wasn't tired anymore, but I really enjoyed messing with Two-bit.

"Oh my-" I exclaimed as I covered up my nose and mouth with my hand, "your breath smells awful! Go brush your teeth mister!" I said successfully holding back my laughs.

"I will, as soon as you get out from underneath the couch."

"How about no," I said playfully, I scooted farther away from Two-bit, and closer to the wall. He stuck his hand underneath the couch in an attempt to grab me, but he came to no prevail. I laughed at his failure.

"Oh, shut your trap!" He snapped at me. Then I heard someone walk in. I knew it was Darry, because I could see his work boots.

"Two-bit...why are you on the floor?" Darry asked slowly.

"Because Riley won't get out from underneath the couch!" He said exasperated at me. He sat up, and I could just barely make out a smile tugging on the corner of his lips.

"Riley?" Darry asked stretching out my name, like I do when I'm talking to Sarah.

"Yes?" I replied, trying my best to sound like a 5 year old who knew they were guilty of something. I heard Two-bit trying his best to stifle his laughters, while Darry bent down to look at me underneath the couch.

"Why are you underneath the couch?" He asked slowly, and enunciating the words perfectly.

"Oh...ya know...just, huntin' dust bunnies," I replied casually, as if it was the most normal thing in the world. He smirked and stood up. I could practically see Darry roll his eyes at us, while trying his best not to break out in a grin.

"I'm leaving!" Darry called.

"Bye Daddy!" I said successfully pulling off a five year old voice. I don't know if he got the joke about him sounding like a dad talking to his little girl, but he did let out a rare chuckle as he stepped out the door carefully shutting it behind him, and not slamming it like everyone else would have done.

Obviously Two-bit couldn't contain his laughter any longer. He burst out laughing like a hyena, I took advantage of that moment, and slid out from underneath the couch, without Two noticing me. As I stood up, I found the entire gang was standing beside the couch. They were all grinning like idiots, except for Dal of course.

"What's up buttercup?" I said. I remember hearing that phrase before, but I don't know where.

"You and Two-bit are gettin' to be more alike every day," Johnny said, laughing softly. I smiled like an idiot at him. I couldn't believe he was the one to say something. You can rarely pull two words out of Johnny, let alone make him say a whole sentence.

"Oh yeah?" I asked crossing my arms over my chest. "How so?"

"You two are crazy, and you never act your age. You're both so immature that-" I cut him off mid-sentence.

"Hey!" I said pointing my finger at him. "So what if I act 'immature'?" I said putting air quotes around the word 'immature'. "The word immature is just a word that boring people use to describe fun people. So what if I want to enjoy life? So what if I want to embrace my childhood before I have to grow up? Ya know, I admire you Two-bit," I said turning to him. He looked at me with one eyebrow cocked, and a confused look on his face. "You don't give a crap what other people think. You do what you want to with your life, and that's a good thing. You don't let these boring dips get ya down when they tell you to grow up! Live life to the fullest, man! Don't be a square!" I said. "Being immature is way funner than being mature!" I said turning back towards the rest of the gang. "You guys should try it sometime. C'mon Dal. Try smiling for once. It's good for ya!" I said giving him a punch in the arm. I sent him back a step, and he rubbed his arm.

"Damn girl, you got an arm," Dal said surprised.

"Whatever, now come on Dal, give me a smile," I said laughing. "Ya know you want to!" I said with a sing song voice.

"No, I don't, I'm goin' to get a beer," he announced and walked into the kitchen. I mentally stopped myself from cringing when he said 'beer' I don't think I'll ever get over that night.

"There's Dal for ya," Steve said and went in the kitchen with him.

I cupped my hands around my mouth and said "Oh yeah, walk away. Tough, old Dallas Winston. He's just too tough for feelings!" He muttered a response, but I couldn't quite make out what he said. "I'll get you to smile one day, Dallas Winston," I said so he couldn't hear. I blew some hair out of my face, and crossed my arms over my chest again.

"So, you don't think we're fun?" Pony asked changing the subject, after a moment of silence.

"Ya got that right," I said smiling at him.

Pony, Johnny, Soda all looked at each other with mischievous grins stuck on their faces.

"What are you up to?" I asked narrowing my eyes at them suspiciously. The three of them started inching closer to me. It reminded me of one of those classic horror movies where the killers close in on their victim. I started walking backwards, and almost tripped on the coffee table, Two-bit laughed at that, as I had predicted he would. Two-bit reminded me of Michael before mom died, aside from the Mickey Mouse addiction. He would always joke around, and he was a great guy to be around. Now I don't know what he is. I don't see him enough to know.

In a split second I ran full speed into the kitchen, afraid of what they were planning. When I walked in I was greeted with a scene I never would've imagined...

A/N ooooh cliffhanger! I'll bet you guys hate me right now! Lol. I know this was short compared to a lot of my works, sorry. Comment, and vote. Reading comments make my day, and if you are confused about ANYTHING don't hesitate to tell me in the reviews. Thanks!
