Part One
He was standing on the roof of a skyscraper, the wind blowing through his hair. He could see houses for miles from where he stood. He could feel the smile on his face; could hear the people behind him and all around him screaming at him to get down, to not jump. They don't understand; if he doesn't jump, the world as they know it will come to an end.
He knew he didn't have much time left. He turned around quickly, looking at everyone around him, giving a quick smile. The wind was pushing him backwards towards the edge. With a final smirk and a small wave, he kicked off the edge of the building, falling quickly. He looked back up at the sky as his hair flew every which way. He pulled the device he was given out of his coat pocket. He held it in his right hand and spread his arms out to his sides like a bird, soaring through the air.
He turned his body around, him now facing the rapidly approaching ground. He held the device tight in his hand, clinging on to it for dear life. He realized in this moment, that if this didn't work, he was dead; he'd just be another bright red stain on the ground, just like red wine on a white carpet.
He felt the stinging of the wind and his hair on his face as he came closer to the concrete ground. Once he was only a foot away from the ground, he pressed the button on the device, sending bright sparks in his field of vision. He worried he would go blind for a moment, but then realised that this is what the man said would happen. His body felt weird, he felt like jello, he couldn't move his limbs. He looked around and saw black all around him.
He could still hear the noises around him, sounding like a busy street. There were people talking, cars driving all around him.
Everyone that was there when he jumped, was still there, standing in shock at what they had just seen. Everyone had just witnessed a man jump off a building, and when only a few feet from his certain death, disappear from reality, leaving only a few sparks in his midst.
*15 Hours Earlier*
Cole had just sat down on his couch when he heard the knock on the door. Groaning, he stood and walked towards the source of the sound, his sock-covered feet padding lightly on their wood floor. When he approached their door, he could feel a weird aura oozing from the door in front of him. He took a few steps closer to the door, trying his best to be quiet; though to his avale, the floor creaks loudly under the weight of his foot.
Cole looked through their door scope, inspecting the surroundings he could see. On their doorstep stood a man, dressed in a tight suit and holding a briefcase in his left hand. He looked normal to Cole, normal enough to open the door with a bright smile.
"Hello, how can I help you?" Cole asked, looking at the man closer, noticing the permanent scowl upon his tired face. He looked like he was in his mid-thirties. The man's scowl seemed to deepen as he stared at Cole, looking like he was trying to look straight through Cole's soul.
Cole shivered, gripping the door tighter in his palm, ready to slam the door in this freaks face as soon as he needed to. The man held his head high, like he was the king of the world. Cole's smile faltered as he looked at the man. The man took a step forward, now looking down at Cole, the man a good six inches taller than him.
"Are your parents home?" The man finally spoke, his voice deep and ragged, sounding like he hadn't used it in years. Cole jumped in surprise, shaking his head back and forth to answer the man's question. "My parents are at work. Why do you need to know?" Cole said, stepping back.
The man looked annoyed with Cole, like he wanted to just punch him at any second. The man scowled at Cole, stepping towards him once again.
"Screw this; move aside little boy," The man growled, pushing Cole into the wall, walking forward into his house. Cole stood there, leaning on the wall for a few seconds, shocked at the man. This was considered breaking and entering right?
