Two girls, Same story

*Alice P. O. V*

Cam walked back into the kitchen, running his hands through his hair.

"Is everything alright? Where is Mason?" My mom asks.

Cam gives a fake smile and replies, "He didn't feel good so he went on home."

I can tell he is lying, the look in his eyes gives it away. What could have happened in that hallway that made Mason run away?

I jump up from my seat and bound to the door, hoping to catch Mason before he left. I make is outside, shivering, because forgot to grab a jacket, and I make it outside just in time to see Mason turn the corner of our street.

I march back inside and give Cam a glare, if looks could kill, I would be in jail. "What the hell did you say to him?" I yell at my stepfather.

"Watch your language!" My mom yells back.

"Nothing. He was just having a stomach ache so he went home." Cam lies

I scoff and roll my eyes, "Oh please, like I believe that crap." I spit at him, I may be being rude, but I never wanted him to be my stepfather anyway.

"Alice" my mother orders calmly "Go to your room."

I give one last glare to Cam before stomping up the stairs to my room and slamming the door behind me.

I know Mason wouldn't go home sick with out telling me, so what were they hiding?

My phone starts to buzz on my bedside table and glance over to look who it is. Mason. I quickly pick it up and shove it to my ear.

"Alice?" Mason's voice asks.

"Yes. What was that all about?" I ask sternly, "Why did you leave?"

I don't get a response for a few minutes and then I hear him sigh.

"Train tracks?"

"Train tracks."

I make it to the tracks and I start to walk over to where Mason is standing. I am shivering because I left my jacket at home, yet again.

Mason turns around when he sees me coming and he furrows his eyebrows.

"Hey, Alice." He whispers, turning his head back to the city.

"Hey Mason." I reply, walking beside him and linking my arm with his.

He looks over at me and sees me shivering. He takes off his leather jacket and hands it to me, leaving him with only a white skintight shirt on.

"Don't you need a jacket?" I ask. I mean, not that I'm complaining. He shakes his head, giving me a smile.

"About your explanation." He says and I turn to look at him, nodding my head.

"Your stepfather." He starts and I nod my head. "He isn't who you think he is"

"Ok that was pretty vague" I tell him, rolling my eyes.

"Remember how I told you that story about Jess?" He asks.

"Of course." I answer, nodding.

"Your father, he had a different family before, a family that he isn't telling you about, and he isn't telling you for a reason." Mason tells me.

"So what does that have to do with Jess?" I ask, clueless. Then is dawns on me. Cam not telling us about his past relationships, saying that he has never had another kid before.

"He is Jess's father." I whisper. Mason nods.

"He moved away and came back a few years ago. The house you live in, is the house that Jess used to live in. I don't know why he would return to that house unless there is something in there. Something that nobody knows about." Mason says, deep in thought.

"Oh my god." I exclaim, in realization.

"What?" Mason asks urgently.

"There is box, in the attic, that cam keeps telling me that I need to open it. If I don't I will be punished. I asked him why me. And he said that since I was 16 I had to. How old was Jess when you guys broke up?" I ask.

"She was 15, turning 16 in a week." He answers, dragging his hands down his face. "She needed me to protect her, from whatever was in that box and without me there, she didn't want to live." He sits down on the ground and drops his face into his hands.

He suddenly pulls me down with him and kisses my lips passionately. "Do you know what this means?" he asks, pulling away.

I shake my head and and stare at him.

"I can never leave your side." He tells me.

I smile and reply, "I'm ok with that." And he pulls me in for another kiss.
