Mythics: the search for Avia

Chapter 9: Sea of Blood

That night, the girls camped out on the white pebbled beach in the peace the beach provided.
In the dimming sunlight you could just make out the very crests of the mountains far off across the great expanse of the sea.
"I'll take guard duty tonight." Said Tori and she coiled up to get comfortable as the others got in their sleeping bags to sleep.

At moon high, a rustling sound arose Tori from her silent sentry duty. She looked around and counted her sleeping friends. Kyomi, Skylar, Scarlett... Gabby's sleeping bag lay open and empty.
"Kyomi! Skylar! Scarlett!" She frantically woke the remaining girls up.
"Wha? What's going on?!" Asked Kyomi sleepily.
"Gabby's gone!" Tori exclaimed.
"How?!" Skylar asked.
"Pirates." Scarlett said calmly and everyone turned to look at her in shock.
"Pirates? Are you sure?" Asked Skylar in disbelief.
"Yeah, look." Scarlett pointed out into the distant waters and the masts of a ship were barely visible. "And also they leave an unmistakable footprint." She pointed to large boot prints and holes in the sand leading to Gabby's sleeping place and the into the water.
"Ooooo peg legs!" Said Kyomi.
"How are we gonna get her back?" Asked Tori.
"Here." Scarlett handed each girl a different colored scale out of a pouch in her belt. "Now get in the water."
"Okaay." Said Tori and she walked in the water. Instantly, her snake tail disappeared and in its place she had a light green mermaid tail. "Woah!" She exclaimed.
Skylar and Scarlett were next, Skylar with a red tail and Scarlett with black. "Come on Kyomi! We've got to get Gabby back!" Skylar called but Kyomi wouldn't budge. "You guys go on," She called,"I don't like the water!"
Scarlett activated her magic and pushed Kyomi into the water, activating her tail. "Whoops!" She smirked.
"Your just as bad as Skylar!" Kyomi complained and looked at her purple tail. "I guess I have no choice now..." She sighed.
"Let's go get Gabby!" Scarlett said and the girls followed her towards Gabby and her captives.

It was dark like usual in Avia's keep and James was starting to wonder if it was all just a long bad dream; He wanted to go home. The rest of the boys were still dozing but he got to work. He shifted in his manacles in the wall and reached for his pocket. And again. And again. Until he finally grabbed ahold of the feather from Skylars jacket. He then put it in his teeth and proceeded to try and pick the locked cuffs on his hands. At that moment Avia came flying in and walked right up to James' startled face.
"What do you think you're doing?" She hissed and the other boys woke up to the sound of her voice.
"Picking the cilantro out of my teeth?" James answered sarcastically and Alex snickered.
"Well we'll have none of what ever operation you are carrying out." Said Avia and she plucked the feather right out from between his teeth.
"What an unusual feather." Avia muttered to herself. "Where did you get this?!" Avia addressed James.
"I found it." James answered trying to cover for Skylar in case the crazy lady tried to kidnap her or anyone else.
"I see." Avia said and activated her magic, burning the feather in her hand. "I guess we're done here." She said, brushing the ashes from her fingers, and strode out of the room, slamming the door behind her.

Gabby felt awful. However she managed to get kidnapped, she did not like it. She was just peacefully sleeping with her friends on the beach and suddenly rough hands came out of nowhere, grabbed her roughly and bound her legs and wrists. Then she was put on a rowboat and rowed towards this big ship in which she was on at the very moment. It was absolutely miserable. She heard footsteps coming towards the small storage cabinet she was locked up in and the door opened to reveal a large bearded man with a robotic right leg. "Howdy ho!" He said, "thy really is a mermaid! I haven't seen one since one took me leg!"
Gabby was taken aback, how could he tell she was half mermaid?
"She be a young one aye Jack?" Another pirate came up behind the first, a skinny black haired boy with one silver eye, the other was covered by a black eye patch. He gazed at Gabby a moment and said solemnly, "Yes captain." The captain only laughed and walked out of the small room, slamming and locking the door on his way out.
Gabby was terrified. What was she going to do?! Her only hope was that her friends would come and help her soon.
