"Almost the whole city is surrounded, but The First Order isn't attacking." The recon officer disappeared and Admiral Akbar nodded his head slowly, looking at Finn.
"Officer Rey will be joining us shortly. Leia and Han have been evacuated with injuries, but she was relatively unharmed." Finn breathed a sigh of relief and smiled at the medic as they finished checking him over for injuries.
"They're baiting us. They know that if we attack first, in some way or another they will win. We can use this to our advantage. We can prepare defences, evacuate and regroup. That way, when they attack, we'll be ready for it."

"Couldn't have put it better myself." Finn spun round to see a slightly battered but still smiling Rey standing in the mouth of the tent, and he quickly grinned and wrapped his arms around her. When they broke apart Rey slapped his back and they walked back to the temporary planning centre. Spread over the camp table was a detailed map of the city, and drawn on it were positions The First Order troops were known to have taken up, and ones they were estimated to have. The large, black boxes littered the map, and Finn couldn't deny that the numbers, combined with their seemingly Blade Runner-esq technology made for an almost impossible battle. He definitely wouldn't have volunteered to go against those odds.
"Providing the squadrons don't move, which they show no sign of doing, we should be able to plan an attack and finish this." Akbar said, but Rey shook her head.
"They're terrorists, but they're professional. They'll have estimated any move we can make, so we have to do something unexpected." Rey rested her hand on her chin, looking pointedly at Finn.
"Set a trap. Lure them in, give them taste of their own medicine." Rey stated, and Finn smiled grimly, looking to Akbar, who caught on.
"Get your troops away from the outskirts, and about two blocks into the city." Rey then turned to the other man. "Finn, we have some bombs to make."

Finn shouldn't have been surprised that Rey knew how to make almost every explosive device known to man, with her eyes closed, but he was. She laid out the components and talked Finn and the bomb squad they had recruited through the process and assigning them different types of explosive. Finn knew the basics, being a weapons cop, and it was a subject that interested him, but he couldn't concentrate. His mind kept straying, and he couldn't tie it down. Eventually, after a long time of staring at a pressure plate blankly, Rey leaned over the table and whispered softly into his yes ear.
"He's gonna be fine. They'll be a big, tearful reunion after all this is done. I'll buy you both dinner if there isn't." She smiled, and Finns mind focused with the thought of his partner. He almost laughed when he thought about how the pilot would be behaving having been taken away from the action. Poe Daneron always needed to be in on everything, and being excluded from a terrorist situation would undoubtably vex him.

Finn stood and slipped into the Admirals tent, giving the map a quick once over before approaching the man.
"What about air support? Once we have the traps set we need to get them into them somehow, so if we send a squadron of fighters to loop round and attack from behind..."  The admiral raised his hand, and shook his head.
"It crossed my mind, and the order went out, but no pilot is gun-ho enough to fly into those odds. And I agree. They'd have to be crazy." Finn nodded respectfully and couldn't deny the logic. What had happened to Poe had gotten around, and even if the tech officers could work out how it had been done they couldn't reassure the pilots of their safety. But he continued to mull the idea over in his head as Rey and the bomb squad disappeared into the night to set the explosives.

The command had announced the plan. The bombs were set, so no one was to venture beyond the markers, and if The First Order didn't attack within the week, the second stage would go into motion.

The city was completely evacuated, and it has been four days since the first attack, so Finn was leaning back in the patrol car he hardly ever drove, listening to orders as he pushed an ear piece into place. He nodded, Rey leaned away and watched as Finn pulled away from the rubble station and weaved through the streets, carefully avoiding the points he knew bombs were placed. He got to the edge of the city and rested, arms crossed over the wheel. Several fires were lit along the skyline and Finn could see the figures milling around about them.
He picked up the radio as he revved the engine.
"Dispatch, we have eyes on." He spoke into the static and waited until he gained some attention from the troops before driving out of the city, making a U-turn and speeding back into the city, radio still in his hand.
"Dispatch they have taken the bate, I repeat they have taken the bate." He heard a crackle like he had heard so many times before.
"Lead them into the trap, we can see you." He heard someone say on the line, but he was forced to throw down the radio to slalom through the dumpsters and darkness.

He was just crossing the laser markers when he felt himself thrown against the dashboard, the car spinning as a flash of light and hear erupted behind him. He stumbled out of the vehicle and sprinted into an alley, crouching behind a section of wall as the fires retreated before pulling his radio out of the car.
"Finn, get out of there. Air support coming in."
"But..." Finn started, confused, but was silenced when he heard the familiar whir of aeroplane engines over head. He spun, eyes to the sky, and whooped as he saw a small squadron of fighter planes fly toward the desert. He pumped his fist in the air and scrambled into the car, starting the engine and skidding into the temporary base. He leaped out of the car and met Rey, who was standing watching the assault.
"Who did they get to go out? Akbar said no one would go!" He smiled, and she clapped as the fighters swooped back over the camp.
"See for yourself." She gestured to the site the fighters were headed too, and Finn sprinted toward it. As he rounded the corner he spotted the familiar head of dark, curly hair bobbing out if the crowd.

As the figure emerged Finn carried on toward him.
"POE! POE DAMERON!" The man looked up, the familiar grin returning to his face as he  wrapped his arms around Finn's back.
"You should be in hospital! What're you doing?" Finn laughed as he held the smaller man by his shoulders tightly.
"Getting your sorry ass out of trouble is what I'm doing!" Poe laughed, and Finn couldn't stop grinning. He clapped the pilot on the back and they started toward the camp, arms slung over each other's shoulders.
