                                                                                SIRENA’S   POV

“Good. So as I was saying Lindsay isn’t my wife. In reality my wife and your mother…both of yours…was .. Adriana Daniels.” Mr. Daniels said his eyes moist.

I knew by the look in his eyes that she was dead, and I had a feeling she did not die a natural death.

“What happened?” I asked flatly.

“She too was a spy. The organization put her on a case. It was highly dangerous. She was supposed to expose the leader of the most powerful drug gang. That leader was Jayden’s dad. When I saw him that day, I knew instantly who he was. The resemblance is uncanny. Your mother was successful, but she lost her life. It was Jayden who shot her as revenge for killing his father. But I guess that wasn’t enough for him, as he then hunted you down and then…did what he did.” Mr. Daniels ended uncomfortably.

He was ashamed of me. He didn’t even know me, his own daughter and he was already disgusted. I guess it was to be expected. I was tainted, and after all I was the child who was thrown out of the house. I had promised myself that I wouldn’t be affected if I found my birth parents and they hated me.

I kept my expression neutral and expressionless. They needn’t know I was hurting.

“Well…if that’s all, I would like to return to school. I have been missing a lot of classes and would not like to miss any more. “ I said in a formal tone.

“That’s all you’re going to say?” Damon asked incredulously. “You just found out that you have a family and THAT is your reaction?? You’re weirder than me!” he exclaimed.

“What do you want me to say? You want me to gush about how happy I am that my so-called parents who threw me out on the streets now want me back, and how we are all going to be one big happy family now? Come on Damon! Who are you kidding? You know as well as I do that that will never happen.” I snapped.

Yes, I was angry and I shouldn’t have taken my frustration out on him, but my emotions were so muddled up, I didn’t even know what I was doing. I just wanted to run away from everything, but that was a cowardly thing to do and I knew I would never do that.

“Okay spitfire…Relax..I was just asking. Just glad that our parents didn’t conceive just one weird child. Now Come on. We need to get going.” He said, bouncing on the balls of his feet.

He was like a freaking squirrel on caffeine.

“Get going where?” I asked curiously.

“To school obviously. Duh! Isn’t that where you wanted to go? I brought you here didn’t I? So I will drop you back. In fact, from today every single day I will drop you and bring you back from school.

“I’m not ten you know.” I grumbled. But secretly I was enjoying his protectiveness. There was no reason for me to hate Damon. He was as clueless as me, where our parents were concerned. I felt a warmth go through me when I realized I had at least one family member, who actually cared about me.

“I don’t care if you’re ten or ninety. You are riding with me or no school.” He said in a faux threatening manner.

I grimaced “Fine!”, and promptly stuck my tongue out at him.
