CHAPTER 4

Charlotte's POV

The walk to school was quite pleasant and also, I managed to arrive with fifteen minutes to spare. They say, 'early bird catches the worm' but for today, I was early because I had an assembly to catch.

During assembly, I took the time to analyse the crowd and compared it to my previous school. Over here, they had about double the amount of students, which was quite intimidating. The speech was as boring as I had predicted so I decided to look through my schedule I made a few days ago.

"Bio for the first class?" I mumbled to myself. Definitely not my cup of tea but I'd got to keep up with the standards. Average results should keep everyone's eyes off of me.

After assembly I opted to check out the school but thought otherwise because being late was not something I had in mind, especially since it was my first day as an exchange student.

Something, more like someone caught my eye when I was on my way to class and it brought me to a halt.

"Charlotte!" a boy with dirty blonde hair called out.

"Oh hey, Daniel! Didn't think I would catch you so early in the day," I said.

"Me either. I was thinking of exploring for a bit, coming along?" he said.

"No thanks. I'm just going to go ahead to class first."

"Alright then. By the way, you got my email, right?" he questioned.

"Yeah, see you at lunch," I replied, knowing that he was actually talking about out plans for today.

We said our brief goodbyes and parted. Daniel Watson was actually a friend, more like partner of mine. Not any ordinary partner but like an agent partner. He came over to my agency in Bristol for an internship, for about six months, and when we first met, we clique almost immediately.

From afar, he looks like a typical high school student as he has more of a lean body than a buffed one. Despite having trained in the academy, I guess he did limit himself to not look like he had tons of it. He is about two year older than I am and has quite a height for his age. He looks normal and all but there is just one annoying part about him, that is, he has this cliché dirty blonde hair, and to make things even worse is that he has baby blue eyes. Fortunately, his baby blue eyes are not as striking as the typical celebrity ones but slightly greyish or dull, I would say?

Now, being an agent is not like how it is in the movies. It's actually quite dull and we do have weapons but very seldom we actually come to use them. However, weapons are needed if we come across any dangerous situation so we do keep one with us most of the time.

The confidentiality we are expected to have when we are roaming around and living our lives was over the bars, so any leakage of our identity would just be like digging your own grave.

Time flew and the next thing I knew it was lunch time. I got a salad, cliché I know, and a bottle of juice and I sat at a table having one person in mind, Lara Fernandez. She sat about five tables away with three guys and two girls, who I assumed were her friends.

"Stalker much?" a six foot tall shadow covered me from behind.

"Geez! You didn't have to do that," I replied smacking Daniel in the head when he took a sit right opposite mine. Apparently, I did not hit him hard enough because he replied with only laugh and not wincing in pain.

"Was I that obvious?" I asked, embarrassed but also slightly concerned. I mean I had never been caught spying on someone before. Despite being a procrastinator with school work, it was never the same with this, instead I was very tedious and never once doubted my skills. I was replied with a laugh again. "I'm serious Daniel. I would slit myself in the wrist and bleed to death if anyone finds out," I whispered. He clearly felt my distress so he reassured me and said, "I was just kidding. I just assume you were watching her, I didn't think you really were." He then laughed again.

"Stop with the laughing, will you?"

"Alright, calm down," he said grinning obviously still holding back his laughter.

All of a sudden he spoke with a serious tone, "So, are you going to go talk to her, now?" he said while nudging his head into the direction where Lara was sitting at.

I gave him a look, "I don't know now would be possible."

I then sighed, "I didn't expect those people to be around her. There are too many of them. Too many for me to handle."

"I remember you telling me that you have a class with her for your last period. What about approaching her then?" he suggested. I gave him an obvious reason why I could not do that by simply pointing at the direction of her group. He realised what I meant almost immediately and said, "Oh yeah, her friends might be there."

I let out a sigh, but suddenly something caught my eye. I got up from my seat, ignoring Daniel when he started spouting out questions of where I was going and left the cafeteria. I think I just found my way through my problem.
