CHAPTER 14
Charlotte's POV
Earlier, I was informed about a kidnapping a few miles away from our school and I was now in front of the suspected location.
I kicked the door open and Daniel immediately aimed at whatever was behind it. The loud bang when I took down the door must have alerted them because I could hear a sudden continuous thumping of footsteps walking across the room above us.
Daniel signalled me to follow his lead so I crouched slightly and stuck close, looking back once in a while just in case someone were to pop out from behind.
We got to a flight of stairs that were made of oxidised metal. Daniel, knowing that he was taller than me stepped aside indicating me to go first. I moved forward and climbed the steps parallel to the railing to avoid the squeaking sound that it would obviously make if I were to walk from the middle.
As I got closer to the top, I heard more shuffling. "Get the guy!" a man shouted and there was more shuffling. When we reached the top, there was a huge block of wood that we could hide behind.
"I'm going over to the other side, you stay here," Daniel said.
I nodded and I watched over the surroundings as he crossed over the other side. Suddenly, I felt a presence behind me and I immediately spun around, grabbing my knife at my waist ready to attack. But no one was there.
I went to the end of the block of wood and used my peripherals to see if anyone was there when all of a sudden there was a loud gun shot and a small part of the corner of the block burst in tiny wood particles.
I retreated and went over to the other side. "I know you're there. Come out now or I'll shoot this man," the same person that shouted earlier said. The victim must be close to him because I could hear the screeching of a metal chair and a muffling scream from the victim.
Not even a second later, I heard the softest footsteps coming closer to where I was. As what I had expected, a man about six feet tall holding a MK-46 appeared.
Since I was already prepared with my knife, I stabbed his arm causing him to shout and drop his gun. He bent over, low enough for me to use the back of my gun to hit a part of his neck making him lose consciousness. He fell to the ground and suddenly the multiple firing of gunshots started. Most of them came from the other side of the room, where Daniel was, and I also heard a few shots from a gun that sound too familiar.
It obviously meant Daniel's presence had been noticed by them so now, I've got to move fast. I tied the unconscious man's arms with some cable ties I had and ran across to where he came from and climbed up a few more steps.
From where I was now, I could see a man guarding above the floor I was on. Now that I was slightly above the ground, though not very high, I could see that the place looked like a tiny maze.
I walked across the bridge nearby avoiding myself to be noticed by the guy. I hid at the end of the bridge and I was on one knee. Once I felt I was close enough to the guy, I aimed at his shins and fired. He groaned and kneeled down but the gun was still in his hand.
Despite being shot at the leg, he was still trying find me by searching the direction where I had fired from. It was too risky to run especially when he still had his gun on hand.
However, because he was moving about, his shoulders were in my target range so I aimed at it and shot again. This time, I managed to get him to release his gun and it slid off the bridge he was on and fell just few feet away from me.
More gunshots sounds meant there were still men that were standing. I manoeuvred myself and was finally able to see the victim. He was in the middle of the room, too suspecting, so I stayed in my position and waited until it was safe to go out.
The sound of gunshots from afar continued, so I took the chance to get to the victim and cut him loose. "You need to save me! They are going to kill me!" he shouted.
"Calm down sir, keep close to me and we'll be out in no time," I assured him.
All of a sudden there was a loud groan and the gun shots stopped.
"Johnson?!" Daniel shouted out.
"Yeah, I've got him!" I shouted back.
We met up at the flight of stairs we came up from with the victim right behind me. As we were walking down we heard sirens from outside and Daniel and I gave each other a thumbs up with our eyes because we were able to get everything done before back up came.
His chief was not there when we exited but there were a bunch of other policemen waiting outside. Daniel went over to them and explained what had happened while I went to where his car was parked to warm up.
When my body was not shivering anymore, I took off my weapons and placed it back under the seat behind along with the bullet-proof vest I was forced to wear earlier. I opened the dashboard and took out a packet of wet tissue as if I had expected it to be there.
I was wiping the blood on my arm when Daniel entered the car. "Is that yours?" he asked pointing to my arm.
"Nope. Is that yours?" I asked pointing at his stained grey shirt.
"Yes," he answered quietly.
I burst out laughing. By the looks of his face, he got offended, "What? I had a guy with a MK-46!"
"I had one too! But I stabbed him before he could even use it," I said wiping my tears, still laughing.
After I was cleaned up, I helped to bandage his wound with the bandages he had in his dashboard. "You should get this checked," I said.
"Nah, actually I should let it be and get it infected. Of course I'll get it check!" he said, rolling his eyes.
I finished wrapping him up and I gave him a light smack right where his wound was. "Ouch! What was that for?!"
"Oh nothing, just teaching you not to be so sarcastic," I grinned and my grin grew wider when he scowled. I took a glance at my wrist watch and it showed five to noon.
"So, are we going back to school?" I asked.
"Do you need to?" he asked. He obviously did not want to, but I guess he could tell I did not want to be too left out with class. In fact, I did not want to be left behind any more than I was now but I guess I could let it slide for once so I said, "Nope. How about we get this treated first then maybe have lunch after."
"I'm up for pancakes," he said, getting excited.
"No, we're going for waffles with ice cream," I said and added, "Hot chocolate too."
"No, I'm driving so I get to pick the place," he argued.
I raised up my arms as if surrendering. "Okay, I'll let you get your choice this time. I mean it's only fair, because after all, you're the injured one," I said sarcastically.
"Stop it!" he snapped.
