CHAPTER 42
Charlotte's POV
"You know, I feel like it's been ages since we last spoken to each other," Lara said out of the blue.
"Yeah? I think it's because of Christmas break," I replied.
"Maybe," she hummed, her eyes dazing off the horizon outside.
"Something wrong?" I said.
She shook her head, "No, just a lot of stuffs going on with the new semester, that's all."
I felt Lara was a bit off today but I decided to let it slide because we did have a lot going on at school and also, I have my mind somewhere else right now. My plan for today was still all over the place. After the conversation with my little brother yesterday, I thought hard and long of what I was going to do next. I really did not want Daniel to end up being my enemy all along because I honestly needed him, for my studies. He's a really good tutor and recently I was having trouble with the newer topics and had been a bit sceptical of whether I should ask Lara for help because I did not want to be such a pain in the neck and waste her time when she clearly rather spend her time solving her own issues with her studies. Plus, at least to him, I did not have to worry of revealing my identity unlike to Lara. Also, I knew that Daniel's a senior and he too had tons of work and assignment, but maybe I was just selfish that way.
Anyway, that was not the only thing that was going on my mind. Another thing that kept bugging me was whether I should really spy on Daniel. I was very positive I would yesterday but now, I was feeling rather 'unconfident' of myself.
"Hello? Charlotte," Lara said snapping her fingers in front of my face.
I instinctively jerked my head backwards. Now even a minute ago I was saying that Lara was daydreaming and while thinking of that, I ended up daydreaming myself. "Charlotte, you just went off to la la land again!" she exclaimed.
I returned back to reality unconsciously grinning. "Sorry, I have my own set of issues too," I said.
"Really? You want to talk about it?" she asked concerned.
"Nothing to talk about actually. It's just trouble with the recent tutorials Mrs Ursula is giving," I said.
"Well, if you need any help, you can always come over anytime. Just inform me first just in case I am at my dad's on that particular day," she said.
"Alright, thanks," I said sincerely ending the conversation when my subject teacher came in immediately starting the class.
During lunch, I was biting into my sandwich when Daniel came over. He looked a bit better on the face but I could not be too sure if it was the end of it. "Hey," he said taking a seat opposite me.
"Hello," I replied with my mouthful on purpose hoping that would indicate that I would rather much spend my time eating than talking. Damn it, this sounded like I was being a terrible person but if he started talking, the conversation was really going to turn over very quickly. I also did not want to risk slipping out my plan so I thought avoiding any conversation would the best.
I was getting an inkling that he knew something was up and I really did not know what I could do to fix that. He kept glancing over at me as if wanting to say something but never did though suddenly.
"Something wrong?" he said, but fortunately, right after he finished his sentence, the bell rang.
I got up from my seat and grabbed my tray along with me. I shook my head, "No, why?"
